Pohlmeier of the Diocese of St. Augustine released his second statement on immigration in 2025, urging Catholics to approach the issue through the lens of the Gospel. His statement, “Beyond Borders: A Call to Christian Compassion,” emphasized that immigration decisions must begin with an understanding of human dignity and compassion, reminding the faithful that every person is made in the image and likeness of God. ST. AUGUSTINE  |  For the 17th year, pro-life advocates from around Florida and Georgia assembled in St. Augustine Jan. 13-14 for the annual March for Life. It was the last opportunity to participate in the St. Augustine event. Next year, the March will be in Tallahassee, said May Oliver, director of the Office of Human Life and Dignity. The 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion was overturned by the court in June in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling.
