Sam D. Smith’s Biography
Sam D. Smith, otherwise known as AutoSmith, is an award-winning automotive journalist from Sri Lanka, with bylines in Motor Magazine, Torque & Throttle Magazine, TopSpeed.com, The Morning Newspaper, BBC Top Gear Sri Lanka, and CarScoops.com
He started his career as an automotive photographer at AutoLanka.com and was appointed deputy editor at Motor Magazine. He was later appointed as Editor-In-Chief of BBC Top Gear Sri Lanka. He has also worked on the MoTorque TV Show, and presented the Exide Masterclass web series.
He then transitioned to an international audience as Associate Editor at CarScoops.com — a role he continues in today, alongside building the AutoSmith social media platform, which focuses on Sri Lankan Car Culture.
He is Sri Lanka's most prominent English-language automotive journalist and influencer, and is a member of the Guild of Motoring Writers UK (GOMW).
Sam D. Smith was a finalist in the 2012 Sir Williams Lyons Award for Automotive Journalism and was awarded Best Media Presenter (English) at the 2026 Automobile Industry Awards.
