Reflecting On My First Year as a Transfer Student at UMass
The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus. It was almost a year ago today that I sat at my gate back to Boston from LAX at exactly midnight, and clicked the withdrawal button from my previous university. I had no idea what my future held. I knew I would continue to go to college, but I knew I was not returning to my school. I told no one.
Project Glow 2023: My Rave Weekend Recap
The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus. A few weekends ago, seven of my friends and I piled ourselves into a minivan, and headed on our eight-hour road trip from UMass to the capital of the United States: Washington D.C. Unlike the eighth-grade sightseeing trip most of us took back in the day, we weren’t there to see the monuments and visit all the greatest history museums.
It’s Miami Music Week: My 5 Favorite House Songs Right Now
The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus. Miami Music Week 2023 just wrapped up on March 26, which featured iconic house headliners such as Dom Dolla, Tïesto, and Gene Farris. For those of us who couldn’t catch the pool parties, here are some of my current personal favorites that you can listen to anywhere, even on your walk from the dorms to class.
How Can Feminism and Sex Work Coincide?
The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus. Even writing the words “sex work,” or better yet, “porn,” is uncomfortable. It is uncomfortable for men to speak about their taboo hobby, where they are four times more likely than women to have reported watching porn in the past month. It is uncomfortable for women, who, because of the patriarchy, mostly shame their fellow women who participate in sex work.
How To Stop the Spread of Negativity
The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus. You’re walking with a friend. It’s been silent for a while, and the silence is getting slightly uncomfortable. To fill the silence, you comment about how cold and tired you are. They go, “Ugh, I know right!? Me too. It’s the worst.” You add on again, and you feel satisfied; the silence is filled. But in reality, you’re not really that bothered by being tired or cold.
The Minute Wear Volume IV
It’s a new year here on campus. 2023 brings a fresh sense of winter fashion as students bear down to withstand New England windchills. At the same time, spring is on the horizon and no one seems to forget. On Thursday afternoon, the temperatures in Amherst broke high 50s bordering on that warm spring feeling. Victoria Gravel, better known as ‘Vic,’ a sophomore sustainable food and farming and English double major, knew spring was in the air.
The Modern-Day Satire: “The White Lotus”
The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus. For someone who has watched only two TV shows in the past year, I took myself by surprise when I sat in suspense on my bed for two days binge-watching HBO Max’s new hit TV show, The White Lotus. Now, the original season one came out in 2021, so I’ll admit I was far behind.
Paper Passion: A Love Letter To My Planner
The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus. Six years ago, in 2016, I acquired my first “agenda.” It was a small, colorful planner with cute designs and added flair, a perfect fit for a 7th grader like myself, who felt that I needed to get my entire life mapped out to a tee in order to be successful in my middle school career. Obviously. I traded in my school-issued journal for this immaculately designed planner, and I was golden.
The Minute Wear
Chilled air, whipping wind, and finals quickly approaching. Winter is setting in. Fur statement pieces, long coats, leather boots, and designer sneakers were making their way across the Flagship campus on a cloudy Tuesday afternoon. Highs were in upper 40s and mid 50s this week with high wind gusts, making for a slightly treacherous class commute. Nonetheless, those who were out dressed to impress. Divakar Bora, or Divi, is a junior majoring in informatics.
News without Worry?
The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus. “Be informed!” “Stay educated about the world around you.” “You didn’t watch the news?” Shouts and murmurs of journalistic ethos echo in our ears constantly. To be an upstanding citizen is to be an informed citizen, and to achieve this we must exercise our First Amendment right, freedom of the press.
The Minute wear: Exceptional fall fashion looks
Knitwear, avant-garde layering and statement boots littered the University of Massachusetts campus this past Hallo-week. Jagged shapes and mixes of textures aligned with current trends, yet students continue to add their own flair to their outfits. The weather in Amherst stayed fairly warm this fall. Despite the warmth, many students favor fall fashion, opting to wear jackets and boots. On Oct. 28, Amherst reached 56 degrees Fahrenheit, with some very cloudy skies.
The Debate Behind The Balaclava Trend
The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus. As the brisk air and gusty winds begin to land in New England, fall and winter fashion make a comeback. As many of us start to bundle up in style, a controversial debate remains: who can wear what? One large fashion trend that swept wardrobes last winter was the balaclava. A balaclava is similar in form to a ski mask, and usually only exposes the eyes and mouth or just the eyes.
The Minute Wear: Fall looks on campus
Fall fashion is setting in as temperatures begin to drop in the Pioneer Valley. Classes are ramping up with midterms, yet the fashionable spunk of campus hasn’t seemed to fade. Students are layering and keeping things practical for long treks in the gusty wind, while making time to add their own fashionable twist. On Wednesday Oct. 12, the high in Amherst was a warm 73 degrees. The sun was out, and so were the colors, as fall was finally in full force.

The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus. Growing up an only child, I did practically everything alone. I played outside alone, I made new friends alone, I learned how to ride my bike alone, and I even played with dolls alone — acting as every character at once. I had an amazing childhood (and thankfully, my parents and friends made sure I wasn’t by myself all the time) yet when I tell people this, so many respond with pity.
