Israeli Citizenship Has Always Been a Tool of Genocide - So I Renounced Mine
Part of the Series Struggle and Solidarity: Writing Toward Palestinian Liberation I recently entered an Israeli consulate and submitted papers to formally renounce my citizenship. It was an unseasonably warm fall day and office workers on break were lounging by the pond in Boston Common. The night before had seen a particularly gruesome series of aerial attacks by Israel on refugee tent camps in Gaza.
Why Get Arrested? | Avi Steinberg
The cops seemed to have been tipped off about the November 13 action at Chicago’s Ogilvie Transportation Center: they were seen setting up barricades even before it started. But the Chicago Police Department also seemed genuinely surprised by the size and nature of the action, and unprepared by the number of arrests that they’d need to make.
A STORY NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD BEFORE
Kids will want to listen to this one again and again for creative inspiration. Steinberg playfully breaks the fourth wall to address a diverse cast of children depicted in digital cartoon art. The narrator explains that this is “a story no one has ever heard before” and adds, “I am not going to be the one to tell this story.” Gazing wide-eyed, the kids balk. “Wait, what?” “You’re not?’” two children ask in speech-balloon dialogue. “You are!” replies the narrator.

A Year in Reading: Bill Morris
From the first weeks of this year to the last, I was distracted from news of the plague by news of Donald Trump's nearly successful attempt to annihilate American democracy. Once I went down that rabbit hole, there was no climbing out. I couldn't stop reading about Trump's inflammatory speech on Jan. 6, which led to the storming of the Capitol, the rioting, the killings, the manhunts, the arrests, the trials.
A Year in Reading: Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore
Sometimes you just happen to be reading the right book-maybe it doesn't happen as often as you'd like, but when it happens, oh my, it happens.

Aliens I Wish I Could Date
An alien living in the fourth dimension, who can walk through my apartment door when I lock myself out for the third time this week. An alien composed of swirling lithium gas, which recharges my iPhone whenever we’re hanging out. An alien with a heart so dense and gigantic that it has the gravitational pull of a black hole, with a cosmic energy strong enough to absorb my parents’ disapproval of my passion for painting fedora-wearing pugs.

Ancient Fears: The Return of the Flood Saga
In the past week or so, I have, with only a few reservations, become a fan of the Weather Channel. Their talk about the jet stream is truly mesmerizing. I love how they address each other by the honorific “doctor.” Unlike most talking heads, they bring together legitimate expertise with something actually useful to say. O.K., it was a bit tacky how excited they were to “break records” as Sandy approached.

THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER
More life reflections from the bestselling author on themes of societal captivity and the catharsis of personal freedom. In her third book, Doyle (Love Warrior, 2016, etc.) begins with a life-changing event. “Four years ago,” she writes, “married to the father of my three children, I fell in love with a woman.” That woman, Abby Wambach, would become her wife.
