On being 'ill'-informed
H.D.'s late modernist poetics (of) d'espère Image of H.D. above originally published in 'Tendencies in Modern American Poetry' by Amy Lowell, 1917; accessed via Wikimedia Commons. Illness is not a metaphor. — Susan Sontag Illness is a kind of knowledge.
H. D.
H.D.’s life and work recapitulate the central themes of literary modernism: the emergence from Victorian norms and certainties, the entry into an age characterized by rapid technological change and the violence of two great wars, and the development of literary modes which reflected the disintegration of traditional symbolic systems and the mythmaking quest for new meanings. H.D.’s oeuvre spans five decades of the 20th century, 1911-1961, and incorporates work in a variety of genres.

D. grew interested in and quickly became a leader of the Imagist movement.
Guide to the Bryher Papers
The 2002 Addition, formerly Uncat MSS 371, and Other Additions, formerly Uncat MS Vault File, were added in 2014 June. These materials received a baseline level of processing, including rehousing and minimal organization. Most folder titles were based on information provided by donors, while some were assigned by Library staff. Folder titles were not verified against contents. The Bryher Papers are the physical property of the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale University.
Guide to the H.D. Papers
Most of the material came to the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library after Professor Pearson's death in 1973. Prior to this time, selected groups of materials were given to the library by Professor Pearson and were placed with related documents in other collections; these materials have been retrieved and placed in the H.D. Papers. Materials from other sources are also found in the papers, with specific provenance information on the appropriate folders.
