Unsteady numerical simulation of wind turbine with bio-inspired wing-tip modification
In this paper, the applicability of a bio-inspired wing-tip modification was studied using the DES and URANS models. The key findings of the research with regard to the choice of turbulence model can be summarized as follows: DES and URANS provided similar results with respect to the force and power at the blade, with a difference of < 1 % between the two cases in integral quantities.
On the influence of magnetic topology on the propagation of internal gravity waves in the solar atmosphere
1. Introduction Waves are a ubiquitous phenomenon in the atmosphere of a star, including that of the Sun. Of the different types of waves present in the solar atmosphere, internal gravity waves (IGWs) are perhaps the least studied of them all. Propagating with frequencies below the acoustic waves, IGWs are buoyancy-driven waves naturally occurring in a continuously stratified fluid. The solar atmosphere happens to be an ideal environment for their generation, sustenance and eventual dissipation.
An overall view of temperature oscillations in the solar chromosphere with ALMA
1. Introduction The solar chromosphere is historically known to be dominated by 3-min (≈5.5 mHz) oscillations of acoustic/magneto-acoustic waves [1–5]. These oscillations have been shown to be a consequence of a resonance at the chromospheric cut-off frequency [1,6–8].
Acoustic-gravity wave propagation characteristics in three-dimensional radiation hydrodynamic simulations of the solar atmosphere
1. Introduction Driven by the tremendous increases in computational resources over the past decades, computational astrophysics has become an important and rapidly growing discipline of astronomy, including solar physics. Radiation hydrodynamic simulations [1] of the solar atmosphere have come a long way since the pioneering work by Nordlund [2].
