Abstract No. 546 Pre-Operative Portal Vein Embolization to Promote Primary and Secondary Liver Tumor Resection
Outcomes following surgical resection of liver malignancies are highly dependent on the volume and functionality of the future liver remnant (FLR). Portal vein embolization (PVE) induces FLR hypertrophy, enabling curative resection in patients who were previously not surgical candidates.
Abstract No. 139 ▪ FEATURED ABSTRACT Transarterial Chemoperfusion Treatment of Unresectable Pleural Mesothelioma: A Phase 2 Prospective Study
Transarterial chemoperfusion treatment selectively delivers relatively high concentration of chemotherapy to the targeted tissue’s arterial bed maximizing antitumoral effect and minimizing systemic side effects. Advanced malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) carries a very poor prognosis.
Abstract No. 517 How many times can a radial artery be accessed?
Radial access has several advantages over femoral access, including lower access site complication rates, reduced periprocedural pain and shorter recovery times. On the other hand, post-procedural arterial occlusion occurs more frequently after radial access compared with femoral access which can be a limitation in patients who require repeat transarterial procedures. Limited data is available regarding how many times a radial artery can be accessed for interventional procedures.
For patients with unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (IHC), the current standard of care first-line treatment is gemcitabine with cisplatin, based on the ABC-02 trial which demonstrated a median OS of 11.7 months. This therapy is complicated by severe (grade 3-4) adverse events in 70% of patients.
Transarterial bland embolization (TAE) is commonly used for treatment of neuroendocrine tumor liver metastases (NETLMs). Hormonal release causing hemodynamic instability and carcinoid symptoms is frequently observed during bland embolization of NETLMs. Data are lacking about the hemodynamic changes that can occur following TAE of NETLMs. The purpose of our study was to investigate the rate of periprocedural hemodynamic instability (PPHDI) associated with TAE for NETLMs.
Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and myelofibrosis (MF) can present with severe thrombocytopenia with hypersplenism/splenomegaly which can lead to spontaneous life-threatening intracranial or visceral bleed. MDS/MF patients can also have portal hypertension and compressive symptoms due to extreme splenomegaly. Partial splenic embolization can lead to splenic size reduction and platelet count improvement.
Transarterial embolization (TAE) and transarterial radioembolization with Yttrium-90 (TARE) are two common treatments for neuroendocrine tumor liver metastases (NETLMs). Hormonal release causing hemodynamic instability and carcinoid symptoms is frequently observed during bland embolization of NETLMs. The difference in likelihood of periprocedural hemodynamic instability (PPHDI) between TAE and TARE has not been explored.
