Abstract Gravitational waves and ultralight dark matter are among the most compelling frontiers in fundamental physics, motivating proposals for very-long-baseline atom interferometerssuch as AION1, MAGIS2, AICE3 and AEDGE4 that aim to detect at frequencies at which ground-based5 and space-borne6 laser interferometers lose sensitivity.
The electron's electric dipole moment (eEDM) can be determined by polarizing the spin of an atom or a molecule and then measuring the spin precession frequency in an applied electric field. Radiation is used to polarize the spin and then analyze the precession angle, and the measurement is often sensitive to the polarization of this radiation. We show how systematic errors can arise when both the polarization of the radiation and the magnitude of the electric field are imperfectly controlled.
Due to substantial sliding in tooth contact, friction losses are an issue in worm gears, but a simulation tool can be used to study the behavior between two interacting tribological measures – friction and wear – during the running-in of worm gears. The load capacity of worm gears strongly depends on the size of the contact pattern. Worm wheels are often manufactured by using an oversized hob, which results in a relatively small initial contact pattern.
Introduction Immune checkpoint inhibitors (anti-PD-1 and anti-CLTA-4) are associated with immune-related-adverse-events (irAE). Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a primary eosinophilic disorder characterized by dysphagia in the presence of pathological eosinophilic infiltration without secondary cause. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of esophageal eosinophilia (EE) due to combined treatment with ipilimumab/nivolumab.
