The UEFA 'severe punishment imminent' for insulting Mourinho in Europa final
Jose Mourinho, head coach of AS Roma, who protested with harsh words to the referee after the UEFA Europa League final on the 1st, faced heavy punishment.
Mourinho, who said offensive and violent words to the referee after the Europa League final, will be disciplined by UEFA, the British public broadcaster BBC said. "The disciplinary action was related to Mourinho shouting at referee Anthony Taylor in the parking lot after the match."
After the Europa League final, Mourinho complained strongly in Italian after saying "disgraceful" in English to the referee in the parking lot.
His behavior was captured on camera and released as a video through SNS.
The final match between Sevilla (Spain) and AS Roma in Budapest, Hungary, ended with Sevilla's victory on penalties after a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes of extra time.
The game was fierce, and Taylor took out a total of 14 yellow cards, including both teams.
Of these, 13 were warnings given to the players.
Due to the rampant fouls and warnings, the extra time given in the final was more than 25 minutes in total, including the first and second half of the game and the second half of the extra time.
Disappointed by the results of the game, Mourinho also threw the silver medal he received after the final award ceremony to the crowd.
Referee Taylor, who was the referee, was killed at the airport as well as in the parking lot.
Referee Taylor is a familiar face to Korean fans as he took out a red card to Paulo Bento, who was protesting against ending the match without giving him a last corner kick after the second group match between South Korea and Ghana at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Italian soccer fans who recognized referee Taylor at the airport to leave the country also threatened him by throwing chairs, and this scene also spread through SNS.
Taylor left the country escorted by police, and Italian fans who went on a rampage at the airport were arrested by police.
In response, UEFA said, "We strongly condemn violent acts," and criticized them as "such acts are unacceptable and undermine the spirit of fair play and respect."
"We are horrified by the unfair and disgusting behavior Taylor and his family experienced in the process of returning home," the England Professional Referee Organization (PGMOL) also said in a statement. "We will continue to support Taylor and his family."
According to the BBC, not only Mourinho but also Sevilla and AS Roma, who faced off in the final, were forced to take disciplinary action for throwing foreign substances, using fireworks, and inappropriate actions by the team.
UEFA will determine the level of disciplinary action to be imposed on Mourinho and other two clubs through further investigation. https://www.bacarasite.net
Prior to the UEFA disciplinary action, Keith Hackett, a former English Premier League referee, said on the BBC, "As it is unprecedented, UEFA should also take strong measures," adding, "We need sanctions against a 10-game ban."
