Anisotropic Nature of Lightweight Wooden Metamaterials with Mechanical/Thermomechanical Multistability
Nanoengineered wood provides a renewable structural material with 3D micro and nanoarchitectures, exhibiting many beneficial characteristics such as being lightweight in nature, mechanically strong, eco-friendly, thermally insulation, and low carbon footprint. Most nanocellulose aerogels lack sufficient mechanical strength, while nanowood involves a trade-off between mechanical strength and insulation performance.
A Versatile 2D Cellulose Platform Strategy from Natural Wood Scaffold
A wood cell wall with cellulose as the key scaffold is a natural hierarchical lamellar structure. This wood-derived cellulose scaffold has recently attracted enormous attention and interest, but almost all efforts have been devoted to its whole tissue functionalization. Here, we report the short ultrasonic processing of a wood cellulose scaffold to directly generate 2D cellulose materials.

Bio-Inspired nacre-like nanolignocellulose-poly (vinyl alcohol)-TiO 2
The hybrid layered structure model of resultant nacre-like composite was proposed as shown in Fig. 1. Firstly, the lignocellulose suspension mixed with 1?wt.% TiO and 4?wt.% PVA was added into SuperMassColloider at 1,500?rpm. Subsequently, lignocellulose/PVA/TiO suspension was fed into the disk grinder continuously for 6?hours through a loop consisting of a peristaltic pump and plastic tubing.
