What was your first job as a journalist?

I published my first piece at 15 in The Long Islander about USDAN, an arts camp.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Uh, yeah. Began on one!

How is social media changing news?

Making things accessible, transparent in a good way, transparent in a bad way and overwhelming.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

I don't know.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Uphold people's rights by informing and revealing. What a noble profession.

I don't know.

Facebook as I get to connect with old friends from childhood and college.

Why did you become a journalist?

I've been a writer since I'm nine.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No. I was into poetry.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Either "I Converted A Trump Supporter--My 87 Year Old Mom" or "Why Ignore A True Hero?" about Fred Korematsu, a civil rights icon.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

It's a tough profession, but a great one.

Breathing in the Pacific Ocean, Long Island Sound, Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That stories are easy to research, edit, write and get accepted.
