I have written on the Long Island political machine with the battle over the NY Islanders venue with the Town of Hempstead.

I cited and questioned former Nassau Executive Edward Mangano's PAC money loyalty to Alphonse D'Amato. Mangano and his wife were convicted of corruption charges on 3/8/2019.

Alphonse D'Amato was connected to the NY Islanders venue woes in Newsday by their top investigative reporter.

Which just goes to show that you need to have a good grasp of local politics to write about sports on Long Island.
