Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Music reporter! Writing on albums, festivals, interviewing up-and-coming musicians, and so on.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes!

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

WordPress is my God. Google Docs. Adobe Audition for the podcast.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Sort of. I began working as a reporter in high school, but there was no high school newspaper... I was working with grown-ups.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Probably my piece of Fado Bicha. It felt important, especially with the rise of extreme-right movements in Portugal.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime is a good time to pitch.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

The weekly "hey, do you mind writing something about my new mixtape?" - usually coming from people who ignored me all high school.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Behind a book.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

NYT is an all-time favorite. Otherwise The Guardian, Jacobin, Pitchfork, Indiewire, CoS... And mine!
