Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
I trained at a Bavarian radio station. Coming from Berlin I probably got the job because I speak German without Bavarian accent (no offense).
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, to design gift wrap.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Short emails that don't begin with "embargoed", "breaking news", or "exclusive". Include a phone number (apparently that's not a given).
What's your favorite social network?
LinkedIn - endless supply of sources and leads for stories.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
If you don't understand your audience you will never be a good journalist.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Late morning or late afternoon/ early evening.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That banking regulation only matters for banks and their investors. It makes banking safer, and that important for all of us.
