Could the UK be extricated from its transition period by December 2020 and with a good deal?
Following my article of 13th November on the pernicious role of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in the Withdrawal Agreement (WA) and Martin Howe QC’s comments on it in his own article a couple of days later, Martin kindly agreed to meet me to talk through our differences. We had a very good meeting on 18th November. I delayed writing this post-meeting piece so that I also had the benefit of reading the Conservative Party’s manifesto pledges on Brexit.
The European Court of Justice’s pernicious role in the Withdrawal Agreement
In amongst all the various shocking Articles in the Withdrawal Agreement (WA) lie four Articles which in of themselves require that that agreement is never ratified. They are Articles 86, 87, 89 and 184. Each requires its own attention in order to appreciate their pernicious nature and that of their combined effect. Article 86 authorises the European Court of Justice (ECJ) to be the supreme judicial authority over any disputes between the UK and the EU during the Transition Period.

Why the Brexit Party maintains that Boris Johnson's deal is not Brexit
There is an understandable desire amongst many Brexiteers to accept Boris Johnson’s deal. Everyone is battle weary, but it is precisely at this point that Brexiteers must be resolute. This is no time for political expediency. The EU wants the UK remain in its union. It has, for the last three years, waged a guerrilla war to subvert the result of the referendum.
We should be suspicious of an anti-democratic EU now creating its own fighting force
A strange feeling overcame me last week in Brussels. I felt, for the first time, repulsed by all for which the EU stands. Until now I had, admittedly unthinkingly, laboured under the illusion that, whatever its failings as an institution, the EU is part of the fabric of liberal western democracies. I had always known that, in itself, it is not democratic. However, I had not properly recognised that it is actually anti-democratic.

The Irish Government has revealed the bad faith with which the EU has treated the border issue
Throughout the negotiation of Mrs. May’s Withdrawal Agreement (WA), and her subsequent attempts to have Parliament approve it, the issue of the Irish border loomed large. In fact, it was the EU’s intransigence over the border issue that finally undermined the WA.
Joining a functionless "Parliament" - how this Brexit Party MEP found his first trip to Brussels
As I hurtled towards the big EU machine on the Eurostar from London St Pancras, I had initially intended this post-induction piece to be a light-hearted reflection on my first experiences in Brussels. The beer was good, the bureaucracy was bad – that sort of thing. But in view of the seriousness of the inherently undemocratic structures which govern the EU – and, therefore, the UK – I think it important to focus on a few things about which even eurosceptics may not be fully aware.
