Diabetes inpatients are at higher risk of early, unplanned readmission (EUR). Glucose-based triggers for diabetes management team (DMT) review poorly predict EUR. EUR prediction models were developed and externally validated showing moderate performance using readily available, primarily early admission data. Regularised regression models were clinically practical and outperformed a classification tree; a neural network added no benefit. EUR prediction models can enhance timely, targeted DMT review.

Modern technology has transformed the way ecologists collect these data in the field, via the use of remote monitoring tools like camera traps and monitoring videos (e.g., Walsh et al. 2016; Folpp et al. 2020; Steenweg et al. 2017; Oberosler et al. 2017).
