BYU men’s golf finishes 2nd Without Akina as sophomore shines on PGA Tour
No. 25 BYU men’s golf finished second at the Preserve Golf Club collegiate on Tuesday, without sophomore Kihei Akina, who tied for 17th at the PGA Tour’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship. After winning the tournament last year, BYU came up a few strokes short of repeating. The Cougars finished at 21 under par with a three-round score of 843, earning their best team finish of the season despite being without Akina in the lineup.
'Battle of the blessed' shirts add history to BYU-Notre Dame matchup
When BYU and Notre Dame face off Saturday in one of the biggest games of the season, the matchup will bring together two of the most religious universities in the country. In 1992, BYU was set to play in South Bend. An advertisement was published in the Notre Dame student newspaper, The Observer, promoting shirts ahead of the Oct. 24 game.
Former Cougar Jakob Robinson signs with Tennessee Titans
Former BYU cornerback Jakob Robinson signed with the Tennessee Titans practice squad on Tuesday, Sept. 29. It's another opportunity for the former Cougar to continue his NFL career. Robinson originally signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2025 after finishing his college career at BYU. The 5-foot-10 cornerback spent a year competing for a roster spot in San Francisco, but ultimately injuries made it difficult to stay on the field.
Jaxon Kohler's eligibility continues to hang in the balance for BYU basketball
In an interview with Andy Katz on The Sideline podcast, BYU basketball coach Kevin Young made a relevant observation. “I didn’t know I needed a law degree when I became a college basketball coach,” he said. For BYU basketball and Jaxon Kohler, Tuesday was supposed to bring an answer to the question of his eligibility. Instead, the Cougars are still stuck waiting for one.
Kehei Akina leads BYU golf to strong start
BYU men’s golf is in full swing, and Kihei Akina is picking up right where he left off. After a busy summer that included playing for Team USA in the Walker Cup, a prestigious amateur golf competition between the United States and Great Britain and Ireland, Akina returned to Provo and immediately made his presence felt. The sophomore finished in second place to San Diego State’s Brayden Forte at the Vuori Invitational in San Diego, shooting three under par with rounds of 71, 70, and 69.
Former BYU star Fred Warner is back — and breaking records
As the 2026 NFL season unfolds, plenty of former BYU players are competing at the next level — including a familiar face that hadn't played in quite some time. On Sept. 11 in Australia, former Cougar linebacker and current San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner played in his first NFL game since early in the 2025 season. Warner missed the final 11 games last year due to a right ankle fracture in Week 6.
Evolution, structure and function of the putative biosynthetic gene cluster of the fungal secondary metabolite myriocin, a potent inhibitory sphingolipid
Abstract Myriocin is a fungal secondary metabolite exploited worldwide as a powerful inhibitor of sphingolipid biosynthesis through its structural similarity to sphingosine. We identify the putative myriocin biosynthesis gene cluster (BGC) through de novo sequencing of two producing fungi, Isaria sinclairii and Mycelia sterilia, yielding genomes of 25.2 Mb and 34.2 Mb encoding 27 and 20 secondary metabolite BGCs, respectively. BGCs #5 in I. sinclairii and #18 in M.
