Ben Stegner

Ben spent 12 years at MakeUseOf explaining technology to people who don't consider themselves tech-savvy. He built the systems, teams, and standards that made it possible to do that at scale.

As Editor-in-Chief, he led a globally distributed team of 15 editors and 100+ writers across six continents, driving a traffic peak of over 1 million daily sessions and nearly $20 million in revenue. He owned editorial strategy, managed the content calendar, developed contributors from novice to senior level, and served as the primary liaison between MUO's editorial team and Valnet's corporate leadership.

Before becoming EIC, he built and ran the site's onboarding program from scratch, designed the training and documentation frameworks that brought hundreds of new writers up to publication standards, and edited across multiple content verticals as Deputy Editor. When Valnet acquired MakeUseOf, he helped navigate the transition: building new workflows, migrating documentation, and keeping a large async team aligned through significant organizational change.

Ben is a strong writer and editor who also knows how to run an operation: build the calendar, set the standards, develop the people, and make sure the work gets done consistently and well. After 12 years at one publication, he's currently freelancing to bring his editorial depth and operational experience to new teams.
