Recently, a missions team from Ohio traveled over 3,000 miles to come and install a wood stove at Seldovia Bible Chapel. As I reflect on God’s hand of how it all happened, I remember that God cares about our needs; God cares about the little things in life. I also see that God is working even when we can’t see him doing so.
Burnham proposes plan to cut standing charges from gas bills
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has asked ministers to develop a plan to remove standing charges from gas bills. These are fixed daily fees that cover the costs of connecting to a supply. They vary by region and households must still pay them even when energy is not being used. Industry body Energy UK said whether the proposed changes would make a difference to bills would depend on how or where the charges were reallocated on the bill.
Audit regulator looking into Manchester City accounting
The UK audit regulator has confirmed it is leading inquiries into accounting irregularities at Manchester City. The Financial Reporting Council confirmed in a letter to the House of Commons business select committee it had taken over "regulatory consideration" of the case from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales on 30 September. No formal investigation has started, but the FRC is making inquiries into the case.
Union attacks NatWest plans to reduce working from home
The Unite union has hit out at a plan by NatWest to reduce the rights of 30,000 of its employees to work from home. NatWest says it is moving to a hybrid approach where workers will be required to attend the office at least two days a week, from February. The bank says this is still very competitive with the rest of the finance industry, and exceptions will be made for colleagues who require additional flexibility.
