BentSpoke Half Cranked
Pale Yellow Style Session IPA ABV 3.2% Crankshaft is an IPA that will likely need no introduction to readers of these pages. BentSpoke’s flagship beer is a modern craft classic that has topped GABS multiple times and can be found in good beer spots across the country. The West Coast IPA has always been a little more approachable to the Australian palate thanks to its 5.8 percent ABV and, in 2026, it’s been given an even more approachable spinoff in Half Cranked.
BentSpoke Brewing Frenzy
Red Style Fruited Wheat Beer ABV 5.0% I'm not sure about you, but when I pick up a can of beer called Frenzy – especially when said can is wrapped in deep pink – my senses instantly brace themselves for the appearance of a lurid red liquid splash into my glass. This Frenzy is not that beer, however, looking more akin to a pét nat rosé, and going to work on your taste and smell more than sight. The frenzy in this limited release from BentSpoke is instead brought by the raspberries in the mix.
BentSpoke & Mountain Culture are On The Terps
Black Style Terpene Black IPA ABV 6.0% Sometimes, collaborations feel a little inevitable. BentSpoke and Mountain Culture coming together to brew a beer is certainly one of those occasions, with the two indie breweries united by more than beer. For one, there’s the passion for bikes that the founders share (want proof? Just look at BentSpoke’s name) and which is celebrated on the cockatoo riding psychedelic waves on the beer’s artwork.
BentSpoke Stratus
Golden Yellow Style Hazy IPA ABV 6.0% When was the last time you took a moment to stare at the clouds? As a child, you say? What a waste. Why not take a moment today to just lie back, gaze into the stratosphere and draw pictures in your mind of what each cloud could be? Oh, I see, you’re too busy being crushed by the weight of mortgage payments, rental increases, or a global political reality of a world crashing towards destruction?
BentSpoke Brewing Drifter Series: Shifters Pale Lager
Pale Yellow Style New World Lager ABV 4.4% With a brewery as unafraid to experiment as BentSpoke, you might expect them to use their Drifter Series of one-off releases for beers that push, or at least nudge, the envelope. Shifters, however, is not that sort of beer. Instead, it's a pale lager released with summer looming and, presumably, with sun-drenched quaffing in mind. That said, you could argue the beer has been BentSpoked – at least a little.
BentSpoke Brewing Hazee
Golden Yellow Style Hazy Pale ABV 4.4% They've always had a way with hops at BentSpoke Brewing, and in 2024, they released a core range member built to use those little green wonders to transport you away. Sure, Canberra might not have a beach, but grab a bucketload of sand, head down to Lake Burley Griffin*, crack open a can of Hazee, and suddenly you might find yourself gazing out onto the Pacific.
BentSpoke look across The Ditch and come Bract with hops
Golden Yellow Style New Zealand IPA ABV 6.0% If you’ve got new hop varieties, BentSpoke seems like a natural place to send them. The brewery have long showed their skills at brewing IPAs and Crackshaft remains one of the most popular (OK, the most popular according to the public vote) IPAs in the land. Naturally it means the brewery is part of NZ Hops’ Bract Brewing Programme which sees the grower partner with breweries around the world to get better insights into their experimental varieties.
BentSpoke Brewing Cluster 10 XXXPA
Golden Style Imperial XPA ABV 10.0% I'm not sure why, but I always had trouble with BentSpoke's numerical systems. They only really use them in two ways, which I now understand to be to highlight the alcohol content in their Cluster series and the year of release for their Descent imperial stout.
XXX marks the spot for BentSpoke's 10th anniversary release
Golden Style Imperial XPA ABV 10.0% I'm not sure why, but I always had trouble with BentSpoke's numerical systems. They only really use them in two ways, which I now understand to be to highlight the alcohol content in their Cluster series and the year of release for their Descent imperial stout.
BentSpoke Brewing Dick Tracy
Rich Brown Style American Brown Ale ABV 6.0% The year is 2014, Tony Abbott is Prime Minister and history’s greatest film, The Lego Movie, has just been released. Just down the road from Tony’s temporary home, Richard Watkins and Tracy Margrain have finally found a moment to brew their first ever beer and named it after themselves. Since then, that brew that started BentSpoke has returned each year with Dick Tracy a welcome moment to look back on the past and toast to the future.

The Freewheelin' Boozeless BentSpoke
Pale Yellow Style Non-Alc IPA ABV <0.5% BentSpoke Brewing certainly know a thing or two about brewing IPAs. If you asked the entire nation of craft beer drinkers, they’d probably tell you Crankshaft is their favourite IPA or beer in the country (and indeed they have, multiple times during the GABS Hottest 100). But if you asked The Crafty Pint, we’d have to point to Sprocket as one of Australia’s best ways to enjoy hops, although Keep It Simple has been a recent favoruite too.
BentSpoke get their funk on. Again and again
Both Flemm and Muthur Funker have been part of BentSpoke's oeuvre for a number of years, and in 2023 they're appearing in cans at the same time for those who know they're after something Belgian-esque and funky but can't decide exactly how said desire should be sated. The new edition of Flemm is a little different to those that have come before, most noticeably when it comes to booze content: up from 5 to 6 percent ABV.
BentSpoke keep things wild with Descent 23
Another spin around the sun means another descent into the dark depths of barrel-aged imperial stouts for BentSpoke. And it's one the Canberra brewers continue to navigate a little differently to most – and we don't mean in the manner of this year's promotional video.
BentSpoke & Teeling share whiskey and stout
St Patrick’s Day has a long history in Australia and goes back to when some of the very first Australian convicts arrived in these lands. For Paddy’s Day 2023, BentSpoke brewing have brought a bit of Dublin history to Australia with their “Tandem” collab with Teeling Whiskey. The distillery opened in the heart of Dublin in 2015 - a stone’s throw from Guinness - and was the first new distillery in the city in more than 125 years but the Teeling name is deeply tied to the city’s whiskey-making past.
