What was your first job as a journalist?

My first job as a journalist was as a freelance reporter for GroundUp, where I began covering underreported community issues in 2015.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To be a journalist means gathering, verifying, and reporting information in a way that informs the public, holds power to account, and gives voice to those who might otherwise go unheard, while ensuring their stories are told with dignity and respect.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

For writing , I use Microsoft Word and Google Docs. Communication and interviews, I rely on WhatsApp, Zoom, and phone calls, For research and verification, I use Google Advanced Search, government websites, and I also use social media platforms such as Facebook and X (Twitter) for sourcing leads and monitoring public discourse

Why did you become a journalist?

I became a journalist to report on inequality and underreported community struggles after witnessing injustice fin the community I live

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Do not loose hope if a story pitch is rejected its a form of a learning curve
