Bill Baird’s Biography

Former resident of Oakland, Portland, LA, Austin. Currently in my native San Antonio TX.
Eagle Scout, NOLS graduate, Nat'l merit scholar, BA - UT Plan II, MFA - Mills College, yadda yadda.
2001 - 2007 Founded and played in Sound Team, actually a very good band but, alas, also a major label cautionary tale
2006 Delivered a pizza to Michael Bolton.
2007 - 2012 Played in {{{SUNSET}}} (later just Sunset), toured the US endless. Worked as a teaching assistant and medical aide at the TX School for the Blind.
2010 Starred in Echotone, a film about Austin music. Some folks liked it.
2011 August 4th named Bill Baird day, city of Austin. (video)
2012 Moved to Oakland to become TA and master's candidate at the wonderful Mills College Center for Contemporary Music (RIP).
2012 Best New Musician, East Bay Express.
2013 Recipient of Frog Peak Collective Experimental Music Prize
2012 - 2016 "Hair Forest" - my own show at Berkeley Public Access TV.
2014 - 2021 Undertook numerous creative tech installations with friend and partner Taurin Barrera, including exhibits at Luminaria, Hopscotch, CA Academy of Sciences, Fort Mason, and more.
2015 Dresher Ensemble Artist-in-residence, culminating in 2nd public access opera, "Mundus Novus," debuted at the Switchboard Fest, Brava Theaeter in San Francisco.
2015 Released Earth into Aether in UK, which was named Rough Trade record of the month. Played some wonderful BBC shows, etc.
2015 - 2020 Drove internet taxi cab in San Francisco -- gave over 15,000 rides. Got projectile vomited on, assaulted, etc.
2018 Released only album produced by Super Deluxe, a pretty wonderful and sadly short lived media company. Got my own tv special. Still got the shirt.
2020 Moved to San Antonio and began writing for SA Current newspaper.
2021 Recipient Wittliff research grant through Texas State University
2021 Circumnavigated San Antonio on foot (nothing to sneeze at... city is very sprawl-y).
2022 TX Master Naturalist candidate
Along the way, released records through Parlophone, Capitol, Talkshow (Sony Red), Moon Glyph, Dangerbird, Pau Wau, St. Ives/Secretly Canadian, Curly Cassettes.
