CAP agencies make good partners for community solar
Community solar is facing serious challenges. The impending end of solar tax credits and the potential end of the Solar For All program threaten to derail progress. Marketers are under the gun to cut costs, if they can survive at all. And after tax credits expire, the pressure to cut costs will be even greater. As if that isn’t enough pressure, states are pushing community solar marketers to focus more on low-income households, to alleviate high energy bills.
Everywhere
He sees you everywhere. God. That's what Father says. Even when you go to the bathroom, which is weird. Weird, like being all dressed up on Sunday and sitting on the couch watching church on the computer. It's all because of the virus. My sister and I haven't been to school, so Mother had to leave her job and stay home. Father's never home. He goes to the office even though no one else is there. He says he's got to hold it all together. So, we're never together except on Sunday mornings, 9:30 sharp.

Poverty in Minnesota: A call to action
The pandemic has caused significant hardships for families and individuals across the country. Over the past few years thousands of Minnesotans were forced by pandemic-induced job loss or the death of a principal wage-earner to seek assistance to feed their families, care for older family members or pay for child care. The pandemic forced many individuals to access federal assistance for the first time ever simply to make ends meet.

Other Voices l Not ‘Poop in the Show,’ but common sense
Citrus County Hospital Board has been, and remains, eager to maintain the energy and focus of our community to acquire additional local mental health services and facilities. However, the purpose of this response is to address clearly inaccurate information actually published July 10, 2022, by the former publisher of the Citrus County Chronicle, Gerry Mulligan. Gerry publishes that I am an “advisor” to the County Hospital Board.

What the 2020 census says about being poor in Minnesota
Results from the 2020 U.S. census are beginning to trickle out, and for those living in poverty, the news is decidedly mixed. On the one hand, congressional response to the COVID-19 pandemic has moved almost 3.5 million Americans above the poverty line. Yet, poverty rates for Black and Latinx citizens (and, probably, Native Americans) remained far higher than for whites.

It has been over a month since my last post, but that’s due to a shattered right humerus and surgery. I slipped on some ice and tried to catch my fall on Jan. 23, the weekend before my birthday. After five weeks of very painful home confinement, I am ecstatic to begin my road to full recovery. On the positive side, the past few weeks have provided some much self-reflection.

Greetings from the one armed cook. Unfortunately, I slipped on the ice last weekend and broke my right arm, the whisking one. We had just gotten back from a wonderful early birthday dinner at Downtown Kitchen with some dear friends, and I bit the dust hard on the edge of our garage where ice had formed.Needless to say, it was a birthday to remember and not so fondly. I go back to the orthopedic surgeon this week, but I am hoping to avoid surgery.

Spicing up healthy new year dining
Happy New Year, y’all! I hope your holidays were filled with celebration, laughter and delicious food. I am finally getting back to my blog after a holiday hiatus. I did cook some great meals, but I simply had no time to write about them.Instead, I chose to spend as much time as possible with family and friends. Perhaps the best dish I cooked during this time was a classic Beef Wellington on Boxing Day.

I took the opportunity to enjoy the tropical weather this weekend by cooking some Cuban dishes. I did have a chance to catch one cooking show on Saturday, and one of my favorite chefs, Jacques Pepin, was making some of his favorites soup recipes; including black bean. This was my inspiration for this week’s meal, and the leftover soup will come in handy for the rainy and cooler weather this week. In addition to the soup, I also made fresh Cuban sandwiches.
Fresh flavors clear the palette for holidays

Chilly nights call for hearty fare
After a week in Las Vegas, it’s very nice to be home. We traveled with Jeff Brown’s parents and had a great time. Several of our Canton friends joined us for a few days, including Rick and Elaine Roberts, Cory Wilson, John Clark, Jennifer Dunn, Luanne West, and Tom and Betty Roach.

Fall has definitely arrived, and it was a beautiful, yet chilly, weekend. Most of the weekend revolved around the Black and White Prohibition Gala on Saturday. The event was a fundraiser for the Cherokee Arts Center, and it was held at the recently restored Cline House in Waleska, just across from Reinhardt University.
