How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Hit me up with an email. For the love of God, do NOT follow it up with a phone call! If it's a decent pitch, I'll call you.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter.

Why did you become a journalist?

By default. I was complete and utter crap at everything else.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Be curious, and stay curious. If you're not, please do something else with your life. Great stories all begin with curiosity.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Every Tuesday for the 3 years I was based in the Netherlands, I'd get an invitation to a news conference called by Jesus Christ.

What's your favorite drink?

Anything and everything brewed by those inspired Trappist monks in Belgium.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Running along the Cape Cod Canal.
