A softness zwitterionic micelles efficiently deliver inhaled nintedanib by enhancing airway mucus penetration
Abstract Inhalation therapy shows great potential for treating idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), but airway mucus imposes strong adhesive and steric barriers to drug delivery. Compared with other types of micelles, our results demonstrated that amphiphilic micelles formed by DSPE-PCB [carboxybetaine polymer conjugated to 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DB)] exhibited superior physicochemical properties for mucus penetration.
Selective dissolution as a tool for detecting spatial variations in the metastability within lamellar polymer crystals - Nature Communications
Abstract The dissolution of polymer crystals often proceeds at rates varying in time and space. Here, using low molecular weight poly(ethylene oxide) as a model polymer, we exploit step-wise selective dissolution for unveiling how spatial variations in metastability are generated during the growth of lamellar polymer single crystals. The dissolution velocity along defined crystal faces is constant, but ca. 5 times faster for rough than for smooth faces.
Healthcare | Free Full-Text | Dose-Response Relationship between Gestational Weight Gain and Neonatal Birthweight in Chinese Women with Excess Weight/Obesity and Gestational Diabetes Mellitus
1. Introduction Weight gain and obesity are serious global health problems and independent primary risk factors for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) [1]. Women with pre-pregnancy excess weight or obesity may experience increased insulin resistance during pregnancy and exacerbate hyperglycemia, which can be further aggravated by excessive weight gain [2,3].
Identifying a Mesomorphic Boundary Zone within Polybutene-1 Single Crystals Emerging During a Crystal-Crystal Transformation
We present experimental evidence that the transformation from one solid phase to another solid phase within a faceted polymer single crystal passes through a transient mesomorphic phase. This phase exists in the boundary zone separating the two crystalline phases of isotactic polybutene-1 (PB-1), i.e., Form II and Form I of PB-1. Employing real-time atomic force microscopy in tapping mode (TM-AFM), we followed the crystal–crystal transformation in time.
Self-Nucleation of β-Form Isotactic Polypropylene Lamellar Crystals in Thin Films
The self-nucleation behavior of β-form isotactic polypropylene (β-iPP) crystals in ultrathin films has been probed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and optical microscopy (OM). The hexagonal β-iPP single crystals can be obtained via a self-seeding method at much higher crystallization temperatures (e.g., 156 °C). We found that the average number nucleation density (N) of β-iPP lamellar crystals deceases with increasing self-nucleation temperature (Ts) and heating rate (Vh).

Nucleation Mechanism for Form II to I Polymorphic Transformation in Polybutene-1
By means of in situ small-/wide-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS/WAXS) techniques, nucleation mechanism for Form I crystals of polybutene-1 (PB-1) has been investigated by heating the early-stage polymorphic transformation specimens (from Form II to Form I) above the nominal melting temperature of Form II crystals.
Later Stage Melting of Isotactic Polypropylene
The melting of crystals is a typical first-order phase transition. Pioneering experiments revealed that the melting of polymer crystals could be governed by the laws that were established based on the correlation between the melting temperature and the crystal size. Lamellar thickness is frequently employed to serve as a key structural parameter of polymer crystals that have a large surface area but are relatively thin.
Relation Between Charge Transport and the Number of Interconnected Lamellar Poly(3-Hexylthiophene) Crystals
We have investigated the lateral charge transport in a multilamellar network of crystalline structures of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) embedded in a matrix of small crystallites and amorphous polymers resulting from crystallization at temperatures close to the melting point.
Generating Nanoscopic Patterns in Conductivity within a Poly(3-hexylthiophene) Crystal via Bias-Controlled Scanning Probe Nanolithography
Patterning the electronic properties of semiconducting polymers on surfaces at the nanometer scale has a significant impact on their application in nanophotonics and nanoelectronics. Surprisingly, little attention has been paid to methods employing the phase transition from crystal to melt and thermally activated oxidation of conjugated polymer crystals, both accompanied by dramatic changes in electrical conductivity.

Morphological Changes of Isotactic Polypropylene Crystals Grown in Thin Films
Morphological variations of lamellae of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) grown in thin films have been examined experimentally by optical microscopy (OM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). A flower-shaped morphology of iPP crystals, composed of several petal-like lamellae radiating from a nucleus, was typically found.
Flow-Induced Dendritic β-Form Isotactic Polypropylene Crystals in Thin Films
Flow-induced dendritic β-form isotactic polypropylene (iPP) lamellae in thin films have been investigated using optical microscopy (OM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Shear flow in a thin film was induced by scratching supercooled iPP melt with a sharp scalpel at a constant rate. After subsequent isothermal crystallization, an extremely high nucleation density of edge-on α-iPP crystals oriented perpendicular to the flow direction was observed.
