In pediatric patients, vancomycin plays a pivotal role in combating infections, necessitating precise therapeutic drug monitoring to ensure efficacy and safety. The adoption of model-informed precision dosing (MIPD) has demonstrated potential in optimizing dosing strategies based on the area under the concentration-time curve (AUC ). However, predictive performance of population pharmacokinetic models using only trough concentrations to estimate AUC has not been evaluated.
The process of selecting studies for our review is comprehensively outlined in Supplementary File 1. Initially, a search of the relevant literature on the impact of inflammation on pharmacokinetics in the critically ill yielded 6,321 articles. After removing duplicates using the “Bramer method” in EndNote [42], we screened the titles and abstracts of 4,479 articles. This led to the identification of 190 studies that fulfilled our eligibility criteria and were subjected to a full-text review.
