The Knicks played 82 games to assure themselves of home court in the first round, and now is the time when that home court will hopefully pay off. Win here, and be just a single win from the second round, against a Celtics team that is suddenly sputtering a bit (or, in the alternative, just dealing with a spicy Sixers team). Win this series, beat the Celtics, and then beat, like, the fucking Raptors for the Eastern Conference title.

2026 NBA Playoffs Round 1: Knicks vs. Hawks Game 2 – “Hanging With” Doesn’t Mean BEATING
The Knicks host the Atlanta Hawks for Game 2 of their first round, best of seven series, and the media has been talking about how the Hawks were able to “hang with” the Knicks in Game 1. And, to a certain extent, that’s true, but the fact of the matter is that the Hawks just don’t have enough talent. They need to have great games from Jalen Johnson, CJ McCollum AND Nickeil Alexander-Walker to have a chance in this one. If even ONE of them has an off game, they’re screwed.
2025-26 Game Thread: One or Two of the Knicks vs. Hornets –
The season ends today, and hey, 53 wins is pretty fucking close to 58 wins, so I’m still feeling great! I’m also feeling great about the fact that the Raptors are almost guaranteed to finish 6th, as the Celtics, like the Knicks, are punting their final game, so the Magic WILL win, and even if the Hawks lose, so long as the Magic win and the Raptors win (who are playing the intentionally tanking Nets), the Raptors WILL be the #6 seed.

Oops, forgot the start of the game. This really doesn’t matter, as they’ll obviously win this one, but whatever. 57 is still in play, and that’s okay!

It’s kind of weird how MLK Day has become this big, like, EVENT for the NBA. I liked it better when it was this more serious tribute by a handful of teams, like the Knicks. But hey, at least the Knicks still play on it. They’re playing a shitty Mavericks team, so they really need to win this one. Let’s go, Knicks! Happy MLK Day, everyone! Well, I for one have never bought into The Karl-Anthony Towns Experience, so whatever. I am resigning myself to the idea that this team is very unlikely to win a championship with him being our most highly paid player. He’s a different version of Melo…a different kind of albatross, but an albatross just the same. Not in the sense of his contract per se, just that he weighs heavily on any championship aspirations, given his salary vs.

There’s a moment in the excellent film, The Verdict, where Paul Newman’s Frank Galvin is being consoled by his old friend and partner, Mickey Morrissey, played by Jack Warden. Their expert witness had been pretty much fully discredited, and thus the case is seemingly over (Mickey had arranged for Galvin to get the case because it was an easy pity settlement, but Galvin decided to try it, despite very long odds).
