Bo Nicholson
Bo Nicholson’s Biography
Bo Nicholson has always called Raleigh, North Carolina, home, where he was raised alongside his two younger brothers, William and Henry. The city has shaped his life in many ways, personally and professionally grounding him.
After graduating from high school, Bo moved to Athens, Georgia, to attend the University of Georgia, where he earned his degree from the Terry College of Business in 2010. While studying, his passion for music led him to join the band Mama’s Love. The band toured the Southeastern United States and recorded original music at Southern Ground in Atlanta. Working with well-known producer John Keane, he learned valuable lessons about teamwork, discipline, and the importance of a shared vision—lessons that would guide his future career.
Although Bo eventually left music as a full-time career, his love for the art form remains strong. He continues to perform with a local cover band, Steamroom Etiquette, in Raleigh and occasionally reunites with former bandmates for special performances. Music remains integral to his life, providing him with personal satisfaction and a creative outlet.
In 2012, Bo began his professional journey in financial services by joining Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. He completed the firm’s rigorous Practice Management Development program, starting his practice through cold calling, door-to-door outreach, and hosting educational seminars. These grassroots efforts shaped his approach to financial advising, emphasizing proactive service and long-term relationships with clients.
In 2016, Bo transitioned to Capital Investment Companies, where he partnered with Greg Hicks and Wanda Cooper at Financial Resource Management (FRM). The firm’s culture, which emphasizes a client-first approach and focuses on long-term relationships, resonated with him. Since joining, he has been integral to the firm’s growth, helping serve high-net-worth families and business owners across North Carolina. FRM now has offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Atlantic Beach.
Bo holds the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ (CRPC®) designation, which he earned in 2016 and 2013, respectively. He is also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course and a member of the President’s Council at Capital Investment Companies, an honor given to those who demonstrate exceptional client service and performance.
In addition to his advisory work, Bo co-hosts a personal finance radio show that airs weekly throughout the Triangle and Crystal Coast. The show provides practical advice on various financial topics and aims to make financial education more accessible and engaging for listeners.
Bo’s approach to financial planning is centered around trust, clarity, and a long-term outlook. He focuses on helping clients simplify their financial decisions, reduce taxes, and make informed choices about retirement, business transitions, and family wealth management. Each client’s plan is personalized to fit their specific needs and goals.
On a personal note, Bo married Seely Stephenson in 2018, and together they have two children, Grove (born in 2021) and Bill (born in 2023). They also have a yellow lab named Parker. He enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and exploring the North Carolina coast. His passion for music continues, and he remains active in the local music scene.
Looking forward, Bo remains focused on growth—both in his professional career and as a person. He is committed to providing exceptional service to his clients while building strong, lasting relationships.
