Relive the 1997 Rose Bowl. The late Bob Eger's game story ran Jan. 2, 1997 in the Arizona Republic. Pasadena, Calif. -- Jake ''The Snake'' Plummer pulled another rabbit out of the hat Wednesday, but the darn thing ran off and spoiled the party. Plummer's twisting, diving, 11-yard touchdown run with 1:33 to play gave Arizona State a three-point Rose Bowl lead over Ohio State and put the second-ranked Sun Devils on the doorstep of the first national championship in the school's history.
