Interview

How is social media changing news?

Social media forces journalists to ensure they get the facts straight and challenges us to balance personality and professionalism online.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Clark Kent, of course.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Journalists tell stories, amplify community voices and provide facts to help citizens lead their best lives.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Focus on telling your story right. Include all the proper voices, get your facts straight and take the reader there.

When's the best time to pitch you?

The best time to pitch to me is anytime.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

If I'm not on my computer, I'm with friends and family, exercising or out covering a story.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I enjoy reading New York Times, BBC, CBC, CTV, The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, CityNews and others.
