What was your first job as a journalist?
I started in broadcast journalism and worked at a radio station.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! I was gifted one by my Mamaw and Papaw when I was a child and I still have it.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
April O' Neil... because I'm fascinated by wildlife, and envious that she was able to hang with cool turtles.
Why did you become a journalist?
I've always been driven to explore the world around me. Also, I've always asked way too many questions, so it seemed like a good fit.
What's your favorite drink?
Peanut butter and strawberry smoothies
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In the woods or on the water, or doing backyard birdwatching with my cat, Smokey.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
National Geographic
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
I often find that a deeper story lies within the initial story that I started out exploring.
