Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
I worked for the paper operated by the SAIT Students Association, The Emery Weal.
How is social media changing news?
It's becoming like a washing machine, laundering and spinning formation in circles until people don't know where it was initially reported.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To do your best to set an example for truth-telling and fact-finding.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Photo Mechanic, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects
What's your favorite social network?
Myspace for sure.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't get caught up in the romance of it. Real journalism isn't always glory–small community things matter to the people in them.
When's the best time to pitch you?
While I'm trying to shoot an event and need to focus. Definitely.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
More like a recurring pitch... "Hey, I just opened this business, you should do a story on it!"
What's your favorite drink?
Coffee.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Probably driving or behind a camera. If I'm not working, hopefully outside.
