What was your first job as a journalist?
Working for a small local newspaper in New Jersey that folded the following year.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. I'm not great at it!
How is social media changing news?
On one hand it helps distribute the news faster and gain more perspectives, but it also makes it easier for false information to spread.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Kent Brockman of course! Well, him and the great photojournalist Peter Parker.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It's simple: journalists are here to share information and reveal the truth.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. I also regularly use CMS to submit stories.

Why did you become a journalist?
I'm interested in so many different things, and journalism allows me to explore new concepts and areas on a regular basis. I love it!
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes, I was an occasional contributor.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Back in college, I spent weeks uncovering the true history behind a "haunted" building on campus. It was grim, but people deserved the truth.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Find some way to relate to your source material. Only then can you really grasp the most important aspects.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Early mornings usually work best, but I'm also around late evenings.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
A woman once wanted a story done on her and her 12 cats. Not kidding.
What's your favorite drink?
Old Fashioned
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Walking around town.

The New York Times
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
I cover a broad range of subjects, but my work in dating & relationships gets the most misperceptions. I don't write about how men suck!
