What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a fact checker at Vanity Fair magazine in New York City. Ugh.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. Typed laborious college term papers on an old IBM Selectric. Columbia Grad. Schl of Journalism taught on manuals in 1986.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To tell the stories and witness the truth of our time

Why did you become a journalist?

It helps me understand why we're alive
