RAFT enables controlled radical ring-opening polymerisation of cyclic ketene acetals for degradable nanoparticles
Abstract Following the demand for biodegradable polymers in biomedicine and cosmetics, the radical ring-opening polymerisation (RROP) of cyclic ketene acetals (CKAs) offers a robust synthesis approach to prepare a wide range of polyesters. Here we demonstrate a method to control the RROP of 2-methylene-1,3,6-trioxocane (MTC) in terms of molar mass, dispersity, end-group control and kinetics using the reversible addition and fragmentation chain transfer polymerisation (RAFT) methodology.

Concept of Recycling‐on‐Demand Investigated on Linear Poly(Ester‐Co‐Acetal)s
1 Introduction Since the description and development of the first examples of polymers more than 100 years ago [1, 2], polymer-based materials and products have played a crucial role in the technical progress and prosperity of our society. Plastics can be found in almost every facet of our daily life, ranging from cheap and reliable packaging to high-value functional materials, e.g., in medicine and high-performance polymers, e.g., in transport technology [3-5].
Dual‐Stimulus Programmed Multiphase Separation and Organization in Coacervate Droplets
Introduction Cells continuously sense and respond to environmental changes to maintain functionality.[1-3] Inspired by this dynamic adaptability, stimuli-responsive protocells have garnered significant interest.[4, 5] As cell-like entities, protocells exhibit cytomimetic behavior,[6, 7] with coacervates—formed through liquid–liquid phase separation—being extensively explored.[8-10] These condensed microscale droplets typically possess a single-phase structure and demonstrate cell-like...
Biokompatible und bioaktive polymere Beschichtungen: Modifizierungmethoden für polymere Grenzflächen
For most biomedical applications of polymers biocompatible surface properties are highly needed. here we present various methods to immobilize biocompatible and also bioactive hydrogels on polymer surfaces. In one approach, macroinitiator-based reactive layers are attached to polycondensates which are able to allow the grafting-from of various hydrogels. on the other hand, it is possible to immobilize hydrophilic polymers on various substrates by plasma and e-beam treatment.
Application of Biobased Monomers in Two-Component Methacrylate Resins Using Reaction Monitoring and Design-of-Experiment Analysis
This study shows a very effective way to design thermosetting network compositions with biobased monomers by implementing a regime of structured experiments and analytics. The biobased content in a methacrylate resin was strategically increased by substituting compounds with sustainable alternative structures. The sustainable methacrylate monomers have been synthesized from the biobased diols by new routes presented in this work.

Catalytically Active Vegetable‐Oil‐Based Thermoplastic Hyperbranched Polyurethane/Silver Nanocomposites
Macromol. Mater. Eng. 2010, 295, 159–169 https://doi.org/10.1002/mame.200900211 In the original version of this article, there is a duplicate TEM image in Figure 4 and incorrect scale bars. The correct Figure 4 is shown below. The respective size histograms in Figure 5 are also corrected and shown in the new Figure 5 below. Furthermore, in Table 3, the correct unit of the third and fourth column heading for Mw and Mn is corrected to “10–4”, where originally it states “104”.

A Facile and Efficient Strategy to Encapsulate the Model Basic Protein Lysozyme into the Porous CaCO3
Basic proteins play important roles on the biological activities and the disease treatment, but their high sensitivity to the body environment and short life time limited the applications. Encapsulating the proteins into carriers has demonstrated to be an effective way to prolong protein half life time and to control the release temporally and spatially. However, fabricating protein carriers with high protein loading efficacy under mild conditions is still a big challenge.
Rapid Synthesis of Dual-Responsive Hollow Capsules with Controllable Membrane Thickness by Surface-Initiated SET-LRP Polymerization
We present a facile and highly effective route to construct a dual-responsive polymeric capsule with photo-cross-linkable property based on surface-initiated single electron transfer living radical polymerization (SI-SET-LRP) exploiting silica particles as templates, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) as dual-responsive component, and 2-hydroxy-4-(methacryloyloxy)benzophenone (BMA) as an effective photo-cross-linker.
Smart cellulose/graphene composites fabricated by in-situ chemical reduction of graphene oxide for multiple sensing applications
Cellulose/graphene nanocomposite films are prepared by dispersing graphene oxide (GO) and dissolving cellulose homogeneously in alkaline-urea aqueous solution followed by in-situ chemical reduction of GO towards rGO. The efficient and eco-friendly reduction process renders these novel composites high electrical conductivity as well as good mechanical properties.
Functional Cellular Mimics for Spatiotemporal Control of Multiple Enzymatic Cascade Reactions
Next-generation therapeutic approaches are expected to rely on the engineering of biomimetic cellular systems that can mimic specific cellular functions. Here, we demonstrate a highly effective route to construct structural and functional eukaryotic cell mimics by loading pH-sensitive polymersomes as membrane-associated and free-floating organelle mimics inside the multifunctional cell membrane.
