Joe Calzaghe vs Michael Spinks @ 175
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Xplosive, . MarkusFlorez99, InMemoryofJakeLamotta and Reinhardt like this. Calzaghe has grown on me over the years, but to pick him at LHW, over someone like Spinks (or a lot of others), to me would take a great leap of faith. I would expect Spinks to stop him or take a wide decision. I don’t se Joe being competitive here. Fitz56, MarkusFlorez99, InMemoryofJakeLamotta and 2 others like this. I don't see Calzaghe making to the final bell in this one.
Who wins in their primes? Khabib vs Matt Hughes and Silva vs Adesanya
Discussion in 'MMA Forum' started by Samart'sTeep, . These are two fantasy fights that I find very intriguing because they were both so similar stylistically and athletically. Assuming they fought when they were both in their prime, who would have won between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Matt Hughes? Same question for Anderson Silva vs Israel Adesanya? Israel has far better boxing skill than Silva had.
Mike McCallum v. Terry Norris
Depends on which Norris turns up. When he was on, there was almost nobody better. When he was off, there were few worse. Speed and elusiveness could always give McCallum problems as Kalambay and, for a while at least, Curry showed. Mike was a hellishly good counter puncher but Norris' speed makes that a difficult task, even when he's throwing 80-odd punches per round.
Thomas Hearns vs Gerald McClellan At MW
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by sas6789, . hearns does. mcellan is tougher and bigger mw. PhillyPhan69 and Bokaj like this. Don't blink, That's all I can say! Hearns easily. McClellan is ONLY a puncher. Tommy had far more to his game than just that. There's a permanent question mark hovering over discussions about Gerald. How good was his durability? Was his near fatal injury against Benn due to a predisposition, like Johnny Owens? Was he at risk through his whole career?
Mike Tyson 96s vs the best of David Tua- Humor me
Tyson fought less then ten rounds leading up to his showdown with Evander Holyfield, while deadly he was a shade below what we were used to seeing of Iron Mike while still not at his peak (some will disagree) Tua just a year later would put on a better performance IMO then we would ever see of Tyson again.
Floyd Mayweather vs Julian Jackson at 154
Jackson was a huge puncher. Every punch he thru was hard. He was tall (right around 6'), 74" reach, and ripped at 154 or even 160 Lbs. A strong guy with a high workrate, and decent hand speed. He was stopped 6 times (but only once (maybe twice) before he was past prime, LKOby2 Mike McCallum and LKOby5 Gerald McClellan). Mayweather doesn't have the power to really hurt Jackson. Jackson was far from a bad boxer but was definately known as a puncher. He actually won the 1st round vs.
Michael Nunn vs Bernard Hopkins
Saad54 said: ↑ Tremendous matchup Nunn in his prime was excellent. Stopped Tate, Roldan, and Kalambay. That was his absolute prime. He would have significant height and reach advantages over Bernard. He also posssed excellent movement and punched from unusual angles from a lefty stance. Bernard would try to get inside but would be largely nullified by the jab and straight left. Hopkins would not have the power to seriously hurt Nunn when he did land.
Prince Naz V Pacman at featherweight
williams7383 said: ↑ Taking the Barrera defeat away Naz never really got the credit he was due in my book.. How does he fare against Manny at featherweight who in all fairness was very easy to hit with counters and pot shots... Which I could see Naz having some success with.. But how much Click to expand... Pacquiao was not very easy to hit with potshots and counters. Barrera at 29 and one of the greatest feathers on history got completely destroyed. 3K battery destroyed.
Guillermo Rigondeaux
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by boxingfanatik1, . What do you guys think of Guillermo Rigondeaux? What he has done in 12 fights is amazing. Who would you like to see him fight next? he is superb....so good to my eyes........if he was magically 3 weights bigger and mayweather back down a couple of weights, i'd give him the best chance of anyone around now to counter what mayweather has. he has a superb boxing brain. he has superb footwork too. i really really like him.
How good was Roger Mayweather in his prime?
I like this grading. Roger was a pleasure to watch and a very underrated professional. He was a regular on television when I was a kid. Great text book boxer.
Chris Byrd skillfully finishes Jimmy Thunder
https://www.ringtv.com/624487-back-from-the-brink-chris-byrds-fight-for-life/ As for steroid abuse, ofc Byrd is not going to admit it. He gained roughly 40 pounds or so in three fights. He says heavy exercise ruined his body but severe nerve damage doesn't happen like that. Long term steroid use is known to damage the nerves.
Where do you rank Pernell Whitaker?
Certainly a top 10 Lightweight Champion of All Time IMO. He didn't face the best opp. at `35 but he was dominant which is all you can ask of a champion. He also defeated a great albeit smaller champion moving up in Azumah Nelson. Again he dominated him. There was a time that you could count the rounds Whitaker lost on 1 hand. He made a brief stop at `40 and I remember a fight with Harold Brazier {a journeymen}. It was boxing perfection.
Did Marciano really have mafia ties?
McGrain said: ↑ This is interesting, it's form the Italian Heritage site: Rocky's connection with the Mafia has often troubled biographers. Rocky Marciano knew the mafiosi of course, because the Mob controlled the boxing world. Once he was proposed to sell a match, in 1955, against Englishman Don ****ell, in San Francisco. One of Marciano's close friends, Ed Napoli, recalls he sat with Marciano in a hotel room and listened while a gangster made him an offer.
Dwight Qawi vs James Toney
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by heizenberg, . One of the very best match ups I think could be made. Two badass old school masters of boxing. Toney with his great defense and counter punching against Qawi's relentless yet skillful and strategic attack. Both guys had a tone of tricks up there sleeves and were true fighters. How do you see this one playing out had they met in there primes at light heavyweight or cruiserweight?
Pre-internet, who had the best fight library?
I never saw a cataloged list for the Jacobs collection. http://articles.latimes.com/1990-05-19/sports/sp-225_1_harry-greb One evening in 1986, Jim Jacobs was talking about his collection of boxing films, the most extensive in the world. "Thomas Edison invented the motion picture camera in 1894," he said.
Oscar De La Hoya vs Frankie Randall
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Brixton Bomber, . Oscar by ko. Different levels. At the time they could have fought, De La Hoya wins this. Especially since Oscar was always a true Welterweight who benefitted from early weigh ins, and, would have a substantial size advantage over Randall. When Randall beat Chavez Oscar was still at 135 and only a pro for a little over a year. Randall would have beaten him then.
GGG vs. Julian Jackson
Nah, GGG pretty much gets rated fairly. He has a couple of fans who think he is a top 5-10 MW (more in general than here), and a few who thinks is a hype job....for the most part most recognize that he is/was great and a handful for any MW ever, even if he wouldn’t beat all of them. Hearns/Jackson at MW though are seeming to be higher rated than I feel is warranted. Edit:GGG would likely beat Benn at 160 but 168 would be an explosive war that I would be hesitant to pick
“The Hawk” vs “The Cobra”
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Brixton Bomber, . Jackson vs Froch. Could JJ, despite a big weight disadvantage, knock Carl out or not? Froch is too big. Julian was undersized at 160, let alone 168. And Froch was a big supermiddle. This is PURELY based off Froch's size, cause if they were the same natural size, Julian would annihilate Froch. Brixton Bomber, mark ant, Grapefruit and 1 other person like this. Quite possibly. But I wouldn't put money on it.

Eddie Futch's favorites.
Balder said: ↑ Pep came back and beat him, and he was well past his prime. His comeback performance is one of the greatest things he every accomplished. They were rough , fun, foul filled fights. But , Pep took his title back rom Saddler. He fought Saddler again, but separated his shoulder during the fight and had to retire , so Saddler won even though Pep was ahead on the cards. Pep was coming back from a horrific injuries in a plane crash as well.

This Ngannou fellow
I know nothing about the kid. I saw he popped up in the ring postfight with fury once, looking a bit lost, that was it. My neighbour tells me he’s a top level cage scrapper. I don’t follow that code at all, I vaguely knew about Connor Mac when he was fighting Floyd but that’s it. So where does this NGANNOu fellow rank? Would he smash up a shot to pieces old Covid riddled Alec povetkin who could barely walk to the ring? What about a shot to pieces old kubrat pulev who lost to shot old delboy?

What now for Plant?
Appears to be approaching gatekeeper status imo. He can fight Mbili or Shishkin... Feed him to Morrell. I didn't get enough of seeing him mangled last night, I want more! start doing EPO to box longer than 5 rounds Got to credit Plant for a superb con job.

Some Kickboxing fights to watch for Boxing/MMA fans
Kickboxing is definitely less popular than MMA/Boxing especially now with a lack of star talent due to MMA really taking off in the last 15 years but for anyone who doesn't really watch Kickboxing these are some fights in the last few years I recommend watching: Here is the most recent big fight in Kickboxing, the third fight between Rico Verhoeven and one of the hardest punchers in combat sports Jamal Ben Saddik and it was an absolute banger and the best heavyweight Kickboxing fight in...

Mairis Briedis is Most Underrated Fighter of this Era
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by tinman, Mar 12, 2022 at 3:32 AM. No doubt about that. I've had Mairis as top 5 p4p for years. I've taken a lot of criticism for that everytime I've brought it up. But I dont care, I'm right and the haters are wrong. Sport is a results oriented business. His resume is stacked. He has 1 close loss to the best p4p fighter of his generation and cleaned out the 200 pound division.
David Benavidez vs. Caleb Plant in the works for September.
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Omega74, Mar 12, 2022 at 2:56 AM. I heard that both are in negotiations for a fight in September. Who would win this fight? Benavidez easily... September! Yet another frenetic year of minimal activity from our part time boxers! I'll watch it, but the fight meant more a few years back. This will be a genuine grudge match though.
Joshua V Wallin
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by UmarIFLUmar, Mar 9, 2022 at 3:46 AM. Talk of this fight taking place now that Usyk is gone. Seems like a sensible fight. He'll probably dispatch of Wallin in a more impressive fashion than Fury did, Joshua fans can claim victory over Fury and then they can use it to build Fury V Joshua in November or December.
Usky Vs Haye
If Olexander Usky fought David Haye prime for prime at cruiserweight who would win? This is a new one...... Usyk UD Usyk. Haye was a beast at CW, but he was drained. And he went life and death with Mormeck, his best performance was Enzo, stopped by Thompson, poor stamina.
Prime Mirko Cro Cop vs Prime Stipe Miocic
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Other > MMA Forum > Discussion in 'MMA Forum' started by Moggy94, Feb 7, 2022. Both in their prime, under UFC and Pride rules who wins? This is a fight I've always felt Mirko would of won if both at their best.
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Other > MMA Forum > Discussion in 'MMA Forum' started by Charles White, Jul 16, 2021. I’m not really much of an MMA fan, but I do always tune in when Derrick Lewis is fighting. Hilarious dude with exciting knockouts. From what I have read, he trained in boxing under George Foreman’s tutelage for a while before opting to go the MMA route. George apparently saw a lot of raw potential in him with the big power.
Why has Kickboxing never had the same kind of popularity as boxing
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Other > MMA Forum > Discussion in 'MMA Forum' started by Moggy94, Jan 14, 2022. I understand casual fans not being as interested but even hardcore boxing fans don't seem to be interested in kickboxing why is this? These days a kickboxing match is three to five rounds and is actually an easier watch than boxing I believe, the lesser rounds also means that kickboxers don't usually stall or coast and go for it throughout the whole fight.

Gane by TKO in the 2nd or 3rd.
