As a taxpayer, father and grandfather who has supported schools for more than 50 years, I feel ripped off! I know it's about money, but whose money is it? Who owns and supports the schools? Certainly not the Iowa High School Sports Network.

Look beyond statistics for mandatory minimum sentencing
The April 4 article regarding prison sentencing was well-written and informative [Blacks hit hard by Iowa’s mandatory minimum sentences]. I call a couple of things into question. First, why the blazing headline that suggests unequal treatment of blacks? It seems to make a more than subtle suggestion that there is wrongdoing afoot. Is that the intent of the article? Second, the use of statistics leaves out one dimension that would give it all more meaning.
