The New York Times has been puzzled by two socially liberal men in New York who are drawn to President Donald J. Trump. How could it be? asks the Grey Lady. Here’s the short answer from those two men (us): We are New Yorkers. New Yorkers are thick skinned, quick on their feet, independent, impatient. We fight back when pushed, fight for what’s right, tolerant of people different from you, proud of our history, grateful for our freedoms and how we got them, and operate in a make-or-break kind of way.
