Review : Mina the Hollower : You’ll Dig This Game
How does a studio follow a game like Shovel Knight, a loving homage to the platformer genre’s roots on the NES, that became one of the most beloved indie hits of the last decade? By giving the same treatment to Nintendo’s handheld colossus, the Game Boy Color, of course. Mina the Hollower, Yacht Club Games’ second major release, is finally here, and even after a longer-than-expected development cycle, the end product was definitely worth the wait.

Review : Starship Troopers Ultimate Bug War : I’m Doing My Part!
Get in line, troopers! It’s a good day to kill some bugs, or die trying! Now that we’re in the proper frame of mind, we can discuss Starship Troopers Ultimate Bug War!, which is based, unsurprisingly, on 1997’s classic sci-fi flick, Starship Troopers. That film, itself based on the book of the same name, is a campy satire of war set in a fascistic dystopian future where humanity is locked in an endless war with a race of murderous alien bugs.
The Games of Not This Year - 2025 Edition
The NoTY Awards are back for their second year, and I had so much fun with it in 2024 that we've made this a team project, just like our Game of the Year piece! Seems I'm not the only one whose yearly playlist has a lot of games from prior years, so let's jump right into all the gaming goodness! Baldur's Gate 3. Source: Steam. Baldur's Gate 3 I've been going through 2023's GOTY, Baldur's Gate 3, with a friend for the better part of this year.

Review : Cairn : Survive the Climb
Climbing games are having a moment, just as the real hobby is growing rapidly among the Gen Z crowd. I’ve always been fascinated by the mindset that makes someone want to put themselves through so much pain, suffering, and potential for death, but I never really thought of it as something I would want in a game. Then I played Don’t Nod’s excellent Jusant in 2024, and I was immediately hooked on the genre.

Impressions : Moonlighter 2 The Endless Vault : Shop Til You Drop
RPG was never my main genre as a kid, but when I did play, I was always drawn to the item shops in the various towns my party would visit. I always wondered, though, how the items got on the shelves, waiting for intrepid adventurers to spend their hard-won coin? Was there a delivery service? Fantasy Amazon? Fast forward to 2018, when I discovered Moonlighter, and the answer to my question.
Now Playing at SUPERJUMP: Issue 36

Review : Possessor(s) : A Devilishly Good Time
At first glance, Possessor(s) appeared to have everything I enjoy in games these days. Developed by Heart Machine (of Hyper Light Drifter fame), this is a side-scrolling, indie Metroidvania experience with a narrative focus and a visual style that is familiar while still feeling fresh.
Now Playing at SUPERJUMP: Issue 35

James Burns - Editor-in-Chief I think I've officially dumped Dragon Age: The Veilguard in favour of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
The Games of Not This Year
At the dawn of each new year, when I look back at my gaming journey through the previous one, there's always a common thread: most of the games I played weren't released that year. I'd wager this is true for a lot of gamers, whether due to a lack of time, the high price of Day 1 releases, or an ever-expanding backlog thanks to copious digital storefront sales. A good problem to be sure, but one that isn't usually reflected when the annual tradition of Game of the Year awards rolls around.
Now Playing at SUPERJUMP, Issue 28
We're back with the end of the year wrap-up issue of Now Playing at SUPERJUMP! We knew our team would be busy with holiday things so we gave everyone a bit longer to get in with their recent gaming adventures. As usual, there's a bit of everything from the gaming spectrum represented by our team, from visually unique indies to Star Wars.
Tri Breaker Review
The venerable brick-breaker has existed in some form on nearly every home console and PC since the 1970s. The genre's roots, of course, lie with the first "game" ever made, Pong, but the idea of bouncing a ball off a paddle to break things truly began with Breakout and took off from there. After the 8-bit console era, the genre stagnated quite a bit, with Arkanoid still being the gold standard more than 35 years later.
Sulfur: Extraction Action
Whenever I play a game for review, I try to go in “blind", eschewing nearly all coverage and even descriptions of the game. My hope in doing so is that my opinion will be unaffected by those of others, and I can experience the game with fresh eyes and an open mind. Occasionally this practice gets me in trouble, leaving me unprepared for what I’m about to face, and this was certainly the case with Sulfur.

Review : Astro Bot : GOAT-Tier Robot Adventures
Nostalgia is a double-edged sword. By definition, it carries a sadness and melancholy for good times gone by, never to be reclaimed. Luckily, nostalgia in the video game world often means reliving joyful hours spent with classic games and platforms, memories that still echo in the present as the evolution of those past days informs the creations that we enjoy today. When the PlayStation 5 debuted in 2020, it came with the rarest of modern-day game genres: a free pack-in title.

We're back with another issue of Now Playing at SUPERJUMP! True to form, our team is spending their time with wildly different, unique expressions of our favorite hobby, from obscure indie titles to handheld gaming consoles.
Still Wakes the Deep - Narrative Horror on the Sea
In many ways, Still Wakes the Deep, the horror-laden new release from developer The Chinese Room, is the antithesis of the studio’s previous “walking simulator” games, Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. Whereas those games take place in wide-open villages in the Scottish and English countryside, Still Wakes the Deep puts you in the claustrophobic confines of an oil rig in the perpetually angry North Sea.

Cyber Manhunt 2 Offers Sanitized Versions of Real-World Terrors
This review is for the beta version of the game, which features the first three of the full game's five cases. A key was provided by the publisher's PR agency. Phone Hacking. Phishing. Social engineering. Cyber-bullying. Human trafficking. Loan scams. Fake jobs that lead to slavery at the hands of criminal gangs. Corporations bent on world domination working nefarious machinations.

Interview : Voice Actor Ryan Cooper
These are perilous times in the games industry. Seemingly every week, workers are being laid off en masse, studios are closing, and unannounced games are being canceled. Even the giants of the industry are not immune from the bloodletting. And hanging over it all is the spectre (or promise, depending on your perspective) of Artificial Intelligence.

Review : Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden: So Good It's Scary
In this current era of gaming, when publishers and AAA developers eschew risk with a strategy of licensed properties, remasters, and sequels, a new IP is a truly novel concept. The reality of that risk is not lost on this reviewer; the corpses of failed game ideas litter the digital landscape.
