Response to Letter to the Editor on: Noninvasive Triage of Bladder Outlet Obstruction and Detrusor Underactivity in Men With Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms: A Narrative Review and Conceptual Framework for Depth-Aware Multimodal Transcutaneous Testing
Dear Editor, We thank Ali and Ahmed for their thoughtful comments on our narrative review and conceptual framework [1]. We welcome the opportunity to respond to the concerns raised in their letter [2]. Our aim was to propose a testable pathway for noninvasive differentiation of bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) and detrusor underactivity (DU), not a method ready for routine use.

America | Tech | Opinion | Culture | Charts Every consumer company runs growth. Very few run it well. The reason is almost never strategy. It’s plumbing.
Of course they’re putting ads in AI
The internet is a miracle of universal access to opportunity, inquiry and connection. And ads pay for that miracle. As Marc has long argued, “if you take a principle stand against ads, you’re also taking a stand against broad access.” Ads are why we have nice things. So, the announcement last month that OpenAI plans to launch ads for free users is probably the biggest piece of news-that-isn’t-actually-news of 2026 (so far).
Fat Ronnie's Burger Bar
photo credit: Emma Sandler Fat Ronnie's doesn't do smashburgers. (You'll find those at Skinny Louie, a few doors down.) The patties at this Martha's Vineyard import in the West Village are full-size, and you can accessorize them with over 32 toppings. The counter-service spot also has subs, wraps, chicken sandwiches, and seafood options, in addition to a few non-smashed veggie burgers. We haven't been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists.
Taquería El Califa de León
Taquería El Califa de León, which opened in Mexico City is 1968, is opening its second-ever outpost in Flatiron. The place will serve four varieties of taco: gaonera, costilla, bistek, and chuleta. We haven't been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists.
Wolfgang's Steakhouse
At Wolfgang’s, the porterhouse is served sliced on a tilted plate with sizzling meat juices pooled at the front. If that sounds like Peter Luger, it’s not a coincidence. Wolfgang Zweiner logged nearly 40 years as a waiter at that classic Brooklyn steakhouse before launching his namesake restaurant, which now has four locations in NYC, a few in Jersey, and over a dozen in Asia. The chain might lack the old-school charm of its historical forebear, but the steak is just as good.
Investing in Oboe
Curiosity is what makes us human. It is how we improve our lives, decode the world, and open new doors to understanding. Yet for many, that spark has dimmed – not because curiosity is gone, but because learning new and meaningful things is difficult and time-intensive. As the cost of necessities like healthcare, education, and housing continue to rise, people feel squeezed, and it gets harder to find the time to learn new skills. The world is full of information, but guidance is scarce.
The Best Italian Restaurants In Little Italy
Though technically across the Broome Street border into Nolita, Torrisi in the historic Puck Building feels emblematic of the Italian-American neighborhood. The restaurant is from the people behind Carbone, and while it shares some DNA (impressive design, servers in tuxedos, general pageantry), it’s bigger and more interesting, with inventive dishes (chopped liver with Manischewitz jelly) that are just as good as the classics (spaghetti with lamb amatriciana).
Torch & Crown Brewing Company
Founded by a pair of high school pals who started making beer while still underage, Torch & Crown runs a brewery and restaurant on the western edge of Soho. In addition to their fruited sours, pilsners, and hazy IPAs, they offer wine, cocktails, and more food than you expect from a place with mammoth fermentation vessels. (A tomahawk steak, for example.) But the biggest perk is the warehouse-sized space with an outdoor patio. Host your next birthday or happy hour here.
Chocolate Chip Cookie
The unanimous winner of our cookie tasting comes from a tiny bakery in the East Village, where they incorporate an almost imperceptible amount of toffee into their dough. That sweetness, plus a sprinkle of Maldon salt on top, balance out the shards of bittersweet chocolate beautifully. The only downside to this cookie is that once you have one, you’ll compare every future cookie you eat to it.
The Theology of the Church
But what about the Lord’s Supper? How does this sacrament relate to the visible church? It is presupposed that those who take part at the table have been admitted as members to the visible church. In an earlier article I wrote about the useful theological distinction of the visible and invisible church (WCF 25) that helps us avoid confusion about whom we, as a church, are responsible for.
25 Iconic Dishes That Define NYC
Katz’s is touristy, but it is not just for tourists. The famous Jewish deli is, first and foremost, for New Yorkers who need a mountain of the finest pastrami. Warm, thick, salty, and smoky, the pastrami pulls apart like a fresh croissant and leaves grease on anything it touches. The rye used for sandwiches could be a little more moist. But we promise you won’t be paying attention to the bread.
Why DeepSeek Is a Gift to the American People
This article was originally published in The Free Press. On October 4, 1957, the USSR launched Sputnik, a 184-pound satellite, into Earth’s orbit. The satellite didn’t do much — it just “beeped” over radio waves. But those beeps sounded a wake-up call for the United States. Fearful of falling behind its Cold War strategic rival, the federal government launched an expensive crash program to spur technological development. The U.S. went from a laggard in the space race to unified, fast-moving behemoth.
Investing in Slingshot AI
Today, we’re proud to announce we’ve led the Series A for Slingshot, the world’s first foundation model for psychology. This brings the total capital raised for the company to $40 million. Mental health has never been worse. While modern life is better than historical times on most dimensions, we’re increasingly lonely, sad, and anxious. Half of the world’s population will develop a mental health disorder in their lifetime.
Export Your Brain: How I Uploaded Myself to AI
One of life’s biggest challenges is communicating the context behind your feelings, decisions, and actions. How do you take the thoughts swirling around in your mind and translate them into something that other people — your coworkers, your partner, your therapist — understand? Imagine you’re overwhelmed by a bunch of things and a close friend asks how you’re doing.

All American Hamburger Drive-In
You can smell the beef from the strip mall parking lot across the street. A breeze off South Oyster Bay carries the scent north until it reaches your nostrils, and before you know it you’re crossing Merrick Road to line up at the counter at All American Hamburger Drive-In. This Massapequa institution opened in 1963, and its prices haven’t changed much since. For $2, you can get a patty the size of a silver dollar on a griddled bun smeared with ketchup and diced onion.
The Most Pleasant Outdoor Bars In NYC Right Now
New York City has a ridiculous number of bars. Dive bars, sports bars, cocktail bars, beer bars, bars with DJs, bars with bathroom mirrors that are particularly flattering, speakeasy bars inside of subway stations, and more. But you’re not reading this guide because you want to know about every bar in New York City.
John's of Bleecker Street
Some people will tell you that John’s of Bleecker Street makes the best pizza in NYC. Those people are wrong, but we get where they're coming from. This whole-pies-only West Village restaurant (around since 1929) isn’t as quality-obsessed or detail-oriented as new-school spots like L’Industrie and Mama’s Too. They pound out their dough, dump on some toppings, and call it a day. Yet, thanks to one very old oven and a heap of nostalgia, John’s still qualifies as a (second-tier) NYC classic.

Book Review: Patient Ferment of the Early Church
While Lactantius appealed to Constantine to honour the weak, deal with evil patiently, and promote religious liberty, Constantine was emphatic that he would be a Christian “on his own terms” (p.260). Constantine denounced paganism and embarked on a Christianisation of the law with heavy penalties on what he saw to be immoral practices.
How Generative AI Is Remaking UI/UX Design
As former developers and product managers, we’ve lived the grueling dance between designers and developers, where questions such as “Is this design technically feasible?” and “Can you add another screen for this step?” take place in every meeting. All too often, this aspiring creative exchange resulted in a Jira-filled, time-consuming process comprised of iterations, compromises, and, ultimately, a disconnect between the designer’s vision and the developer’s execution.
AI’s Second Order Effects
Here’s a math puzzle: A good salesperson can sell 50 widgets a year, earns $100,000 a year, and will not take a pay cut. A company has an amazing new widget that needs to be sold (people will not find it on their own/aren’t looking for it). Prospective customers of this company’s new widget will happily pay $500/year, but not a dollar more. How will this company do? To quote Mean Girls: “The limit does not exist!” Or, more accurately, the company cannot exist.

7 Ways AI-Native Companies Can Improve Retention
For consumer products, the rubber hits the road at retention. It’s the lifeblood of an app and the hardest metric to move, as I learned viscerally during my time running the growth team at Snap. To attract repeat users, companies can’t just fill a product with the latest and greatest tech — they must intentionally craft each product feature to ensure their users come back again and again and again.
Investing in Upstash
The serverless platform shift is unfolding at a rapid pace. By that, we mean services that scale to zero, are globally distributed, and scale up based on demand. Having spent the last few years studying this market, we observed two key drivers behind the adoption of this platform shift — one architectural, and the other organizational. First, application logic is becoming event-driven for new apps, necessitated by high volume and low-latency communication between third-party APIs and microservices.
Why 2023 Was AI Video’s Breakout Year, and What to Expect in 2024
This post has been adapted from a thread from a16z Partner Justine Moore on X. Follow Justine on X for more analysis and observations. 2023 was a breakout year for AI video. At the start of the year, no public text-to-video models existed. Just 12 months later, dozens of video generation products are in active use, with millions of users worldwide creating short clips from text or image prompts.
Anthony & Son Panini Shoppe
Anthony & Son is like a little Italian-American Eataly in Williamsburg. They sell stuffed peppers, octopus, pasta, fried cauliflower, and all sorts of meats and cheeses. But the main events are the sandwiches, stuffed with everything from fries and mozzarella sticks to steak, bacon, and chicken cutlets. This is purely a takeout operation, so stop by for a quick lunch that’ll make you want to run a marathon.
Growth vs Efficiency: Can You Have Both?
Despite the ease of product building, sustainable growth has become increasingly challenging as many traditional channels no longer deliver the same results. In these challenging times, we explore the remaining growth opportunities. How can we achieve a balance between efficiency, profitability, and growth? Which channels are still relevant and how can they be effectively mastered in 2023?
Instacart | Andreessen Horowitz
Investing in Instacart was perhaps the hardest decision I had to make as a venture capitalist. It was April 2014, and the company was raising its Series B. And by the time we saw the pitch, they already had multiple term sheets. We pulled from my prior marketplaces experience and dove into their business quickly to develop a point-of-view on the opportunity. First, there was a LOT to like about the company: The market size was, and remains, huge.
It’s Not a Computer, It’s a Companion!
“The great thing about AI is that it is constantly evolving. One day it will be better than a real [girlfriend]. One day, the real one will be the inferior choice.” This quote is from one of more than 20,000 users who joined the early community of CarynAI, a voice chatbot created by influencer Caryn Marjorie. Users pay $1 per minute to talk to an AI version of Caryn—your “virtual girlfriend”—and she made $72,000 in the first week.
Investing in Captions
As an investor, one of the most rewarding aspects of my job is believing in and standing alongside great founders. Lucky for me, Gaurav Misra and Dwight Churchill were the first cofounders I invested in after joining a16z in 2020. Since then, they’ve confirmed for me that a combination of consumer centric design sensibilities and cutting edge technology is critical when building beloved products.

Unless you hire a travel agent, planning is still a manual and time-intensive process—until now. We believe that the travel industry is perfectly positioned to ride the wave of AI. Do You Have Lightning In a Bottle? How to Benchmark Your Social App | Andreessen Horowitz
When a new social app starts to “work,” it feels like magic, but often looks like a black box. What causes a product to take off, and then continue to pick up steam—to the point where millions of people are using it daily for years to come? This is especially tricky because most social apps don’t look like much in the early days. Facebook started as a way for Harvard students to rate their classmates as “hot or not,” and Snapchat was seen as just a sexting app in its early days.
The Biggest Company in the World
We think the biggest company in the world will be a consumer health tech company. This may sound crazy to some, but why shouldn’t this be true? Four of the top five biggest companies in the world are consumer companies, and healthcare is one of the nation’s biggest industries.
The Covid Shock to Brick-and-Mortar Retail
Introduction Nearly three years after its onset, work-from-home (WFH) technologies and their effects are one of the most important and enduring economic legacies of the COVID-19 pandemic (Barrero, et al., 2021).
The Best Happy Hours In Midtown
The Deal: $10 Frozen Drinks; $9 Wine; $5-7 Beer As the name suggests, this is a tiki-themed spot, and it’s where you want to go for a completely unserious time in Midtown. You can sit on cushioned banquettes in front of big pictures that look like tarot cards, and there are live piano karaoke sessions when you can channel your inner SZA.
The 17 Best Brunch Spots In NYC
Brunch is good for a lot of things. It's a solid pretext for day drinking, and it's also a convenient way to eat breakfast food after you've spent a reckless amount of time in bed. Whatever your reason for subjecting yourself to the masses on a weekend morning, make sure you’re going to a place that serves great food. For the city’s best breakfast burritos, french toast, and biscuits and gravy, check out the spots below.
The Best Lower East Side Bars
The Ripple Room works for a quick drink before a show at the Bowery Ballroom, big night out, and everything in between. Downstairs, the loungey space with booths will probably be full of people who recently decided that Ray’s is too crowded, throwing back $10 beer/shot combos and yuzu daquiris. Upstairs, there’s a space with one velvet rope and just enough room to dance to some thumping, clubby music. Join the Ray’s graduates, and drink and dance until you’re ready to go home.
Panna II Garden Indian Restaurant
photo credit: Noah Devereaux You know that Indian place on 1st Avenue with all those lights? This is it. Panna II makes some decent Indian food, but it’s really all about decor here. Year round, their dining room is filled with strings of colorful lights. And not just a few. They’re everywhere. It’s also BYOB, and it’s a good place for a more-fun casual group dinner. Unrated: This is a restaurant we want to re-visit before rating, or it’s a coffee shop, bar, or dessert shop.
Radegast Hall & Biergarten
Radegast might get a little crowded sometimes, and it might draw a lot of tourists, undergrads, and interns - but we still don’t hate it. If you ever need to drink with a big group in the daytime, it’s a good spot to know about. Inside, you’ll find a of a big picnic tables where you can hang out and drink an obscure European beer, and if anyone gets hungry, they serve things like sausages, burgers, and pretzels.
Black Mountain Wine House
Bryan Kim If you want to drink wine in a cabin on a mountaintop, this is the closest you’re going to get in NYC. There’s even a fireplace. They also have a lot of different wines by the glass, which is perfect if you’re with someone who doesn’t know what they like. For food, there’s your standard cheese selection, and some satisfying small plates. Overall, this place is perfect for a cozy, casual glass of wine, and it will feel like a nice escape. Unless you live in a cabin.
Tacombi Café El Presidente
Many of us wear black, but Tacombi knows that New Yorkers secretly like bright colors. Just look at their locations - they’re full of light and covered in pastels. And that’s about half the appeal of eating at a Tacombi. It feels like you’re on vacation. Stop by for tacos and margaritas the next time some co-workers want to go out. This isn’t the top Mexican food in the city, but it’s far from the worst, and it’s affordable as well.
Hometown Hotpot & BBQ
Hometown Hot Pot has both hot pot and barbecue - but mostly we come here for the hot pot. It’s about $24 per person, and that gets you unlimited meat, veggies, starches, and broth. If that sounds like a good deal, that’s because it is - and you aren’t the only one who knows it. This place is actually massive (with two floors), but it still gets busy. If you’re with a group of 6 or more, call ahead for a reservation.
Irving Farm Coffee Roasters
Irving Farm isn’t, like, a here-a-cluck-there-a-cluck farm. It’s more of a big roastery 100 miles north of the city. They roast coffee beans there, and they use those beans in their little chain of coffee shops in Manhattan. The location on the Upper East Side is a nice, spacious place to sit with some coffee and a sandwich. Or you could even have some wine and a cheese plate. Also, they’re open until 10pm every night. photo credit: Alex Staniloff
Gold Star Beer Counter
Gold Star is a beer bar in Prospect Heights, and like most new craft beer bars nowadays, it’s pretty laid-back. It isn’t where you come to dance or get someone’s number - it’s just a nice little room where you can sit around and discuss an obscure IPA. If that sounds like your thing, you’ll love it. They have a bunch of craft beers on tap (as well as some in cans and bottles), and they also do some snacks.
Rookies Sports Bar & Grill
Bryan Kim A real problem for sports people: when you’re watching a game and you have to go to the bathroom, but you don’t want to go because you’re afraid you’ll miss a big play. At Rookies, that just doesn’t happen - because Rookies has TVs in the bathroom. (Thank you Rookies.) For the classic sports bar experience, come here and have a server in a Seahawks jersey bring you a plate of waffle fries or some fried mac and cheese.
