Familial hypokalemic periodic paralysis: a case induced by concurrent hyperthyroidism - BMC Nephrology
A 40-year-old African American man arrived at the emergency room experiencing profound muscle weakness. He reported an inability to move his upper and lower extremities, sit upright in bed, or achieve a complete range of motion in his head and neck. He endorsed dysphagia and dyspnea and denied nausea, vomiting, chest pain, or urinary symptoms. Past medical history revealed sporadic muscle tightness occurring 1–3 times per week, alleviated by consuming bananas.
A very complicated UTI: malakoplakia following E. coli urinary tract infection - BMC Nephrology
Malakoplakia is an exceedingly rare inflammatory disorder of unknown incidence with approximately 700 cases identified in the literature. It can present with genitourinary, gastrointestinal, or cutaneous manifestations [1]. With renal involvement, patients often have E. coli pyelonephritis and acute kidney injury [2]. While E. coli is frequently associated with malakoplakia, other gram-negative, gram-positive, and mycobacterial organisms have also been isolated [3].

Practical considerations of diffusion-weighted MRS with ultra-strong diffusion gradients
1 Introduction Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) is usually sensitized to the displacement of water, and provides a myriad of tissue microstructure metrics that aid in the study of many neuropathologies, including traumatic brain injury (Hutchinson et al., 2018), neurodegeneration (Goveas et al., 2015), and measuring treatment response in cancer therapy (Patterson et al., 2008), to name a few.
Prior immunization against an intracellular antigen enhances subsequent red blood cell alloimmunization in mice
Antibodies against red blood cell (RBC) alloantigens can increase morbidity and mortality among transfusion recipients. However, alloimmunization rates can vary dramatically, as some patients never generate alloantibodies after transfusion, whereas others not only become alloimmunized but may also be prone to generating additional alloantibodies after subsequent transfusion.

Hawaiian honeycreepers, famous as an example of adaptive radiation on islands, include species that converge in their appearance and way of life on more familiar birds from continents. While some honeycreepers retain an ancestral finchlike form and life history, others resemble and behave like sunbirds, warblers, or nuthatches. In contrast to this convergence, evolution has drawn a few honeycreepers out on novel pathways.
