Sales: I've been meeting a lot of doctors who have switched from one specialty to another over the course of their residency. For instance, I met someone who switched from surgery to pathology, and I said, “Oh, wow! That’s a pretty cool transition. How did you choose to go from one to another? And I know that a lot of people make similar decisions.

I saw an article in The New York Times today about why it's so hard for men to make close friends, and it brought to mind loneliness and how modern society sets us up for loneliness. I don't know if you guys have any student perspectives on that. I remember as a student, as an undergraduate and medical student, that it can be very isolating. Everyone's on their own.

Lin: What’s the scoop with this test you read about in The New York Times? Zhang: So I was reading this article, titled “As a Doctor, I See Aging Differently,” by Dr. Daniela J. Lamas. And essentially she talks about this DNA test that offers an estimate of your genetic age based on impurities in your DNA and the length of your telomeres.
