Polyacrylamide gels with selective recognition of the tetrameric molecular form of human growth hormone
Networks of polyacrylamide were studied for the possibility of imprinting of the oligomeric form of human growth hormone. The tetrameric molecular form of human growth hormone was molecularly imprinted for the first time. The results show that approximately 50-70% (w/w) of the templates (depending on polymerization conditions) could be extracted from the molecularly imprinted acrylamide polymers.
Dynamic matrices with DNA-encoded viscoelasticity for cell and organoid culture - Nature Nanotechnology
Abstract Three-dimensional cell and organoid cultures rely on the mechanical support of viscoelastic matrices. However, commonly used matrix materials lack control over key cell-instructive properties. Here we report on fully synthetic hydrogels based on DNA libraries that self-assemble with ultrahigh-molecular-weight polymers, forming a dynamic DNA-crosslinked matrix (DyNAtrix).
Ubiquitin-proteasomal regulation of chromatin remodeler INO80 in the nucleus accumbens mediates persistent cocaine craving
Abstract Neuroadaptations in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) underlie cue-induced cocaine craving that intensifies (“incubates”) during abstinence and is believed to contribute to persistent relapse vulnerability. Changes in gene expression often govern perpetual behavioral abnormalities, but epigenetic plasticity during prolonged abstinence from drug exposure is poorly understood.
Comment on “Mycorrhizal association as a primary control of the CO2 fertilization effect”
AbstractTerrer et al. (Reports, 1 July 2016, p. 72) used meta-analysis of carbon dioxide (CO2) enrichment experiments as evidence of an interaction between mycorrhizal symbiosis and soil nitrogen availability. We challenge their database and biomass as the response metric and, hence, their recommendation that incorporation of mycorrhizae in models will improve predictions of terrestrial ecosystem responses to increasing atmospheric CO2.
Pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury
The knowledge of the pathophysiology after traumatic head injury is necessary for adequate and patient-oriented treatment. As the primary insult, which represents the direct mechanical damage, cannot be therapeutically influenced, target of the treatment is the limitation of the secondary damage (delayed non-mechanical damage).
Insights on structural variations of protein adsorption layers on hydrophobic fluorohydrocarbon polymers gained by spectroscopic ellipsometry (part I)
Adsorption layers of two human plasma proteins (albumin-HSA, fibrinogen-FGN) on hydrophobic fluorohydrocarbon polymer (CHF) films were characterized in situ and ex situ by spectroscopic ellipsometry. The adsorbed layers were formed in phosphate buffered saline solutions of varied protein concentrations. Different optical five layer models were compared with respect to the evaluation of protein layers based on ellipsometric data.
