What was your first job as a journalist?
Instead of working on the college paper, I was paid to write for a twice-weekly newspaper in the tiny city of El Cerrito, near Berkeley.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Ahh, yes, that relic of journalism past. I've heard rumors of this ancient technology and the agony of death by paper cuts.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Lou Grant.
Why did you become a journalist?
It's a good way of minding other people's business.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
If it's your passion, ignore all common sense and plunge in. Be sure you have a good therapist.
