Design Notebook: A New Era at Canal Shores
Hello and welcome to Design Notebook, where we enjoyed a week with golf architecture in the spotlight. Would that we could see such spirit through the year. In this edition, we have more news on some backroom dealings in Florida politics as part of their effort to add golf to state parks, plus a look at Longue Vue outside Pittsburgh. But first, a trip to the northern suburbs of Chicago for an early review of renovation work at a beloved community course.
2025 Masters Second Round Recap, Leaderboard, and Notes
The Fried Egg Golf staff recaps a busy second day of play at the 2025 Masters, where the field of 95 players has been cut down to 53. By Garrett Morrison We’ve got ourselves a tournament. Following a Thursday 65 with a workmanlike 71 on Friday at the Masters, Justin Rose held onto the lead but let a bunch of thoroughbreds back into the race. Corey Conners, Scottie Scheffler, Tyrrell Hatton, Shane Lowry, and Matt McCarty are all within three strokes.
Future Changes to Augusta National
It’s become an annual tradition: spring arrives, Eureka Earth flies over Augusta National, and we get a first glimpse at the latest changes for the upcoming Masters Tournament. Before Covid-19, we saw alterations to the fifth hole; last year, it was the 11th and 15th holes; this year, we have a monumental change to the 13th.
2025 Masters Third Round Recap, Leaderboard, and Notes
The Fried Egg Golf staff recaps Moving Day at the 2025 Masters and previews the heavyweight bout in the final pairing. By Joseph LaMagna The moment has arrived: Rory McIlroy’s best chance to win a major championship in over a decade. Design Notebook: An Inside Look at Jackson Kahn’s Redesign of North Ranch
Hello and welcome back to Design Notebook, where we’d like to remind you that it’s now July, aka Links Season. Sure, the Irish Open has been moved to September and the Scottish Open doesn’t take place until next week, but tradition is tradition. The start of July means the start of #LinksSZN. Celebrate however you see fit.
Design Notebook: Dave Zinkand Tries Reversible Golf
Greetings and welcome back to Design Notebook, where we value the tradition of the West Coast Swing but at the same time must point out that early February is the exact worst time of year to stage a tournament at Pebble Beach. Frankly, it’s a miracle that more Pro-Ams haven’t been cut short over the years. In today’s installment of DN, we have details on a soon-to-be-built reversible course in Ohio and thoughts on the continuing drive toward expensive infrastructure in golf course renovations.
2025 Masters Final Round Recap, Leaderboard, and Notes
The Fried Egg Golf staff recaps the final round of the 2025 Masters, one of the more thrilling days of major championship play in years. By Joseph LaMagna Resilience. It’s the word that’s been used repeatedly to define Rory McIlroy’s quest to win the Masters, and rightfully so. It doesn’t just capture his pursuit of one of golf’s rarest prizes; it captures the essence of his long, illustrious career.
Design Notebook: A First Look at the New Met Links
Hello and welcome back to Design Notebook, where we’re hoping you have a higher tolerance for the vagaries of links turf conditions than Dunhill Links champion Tyrrell Hatton apparently does. In today’s DN, Cameron Hurdus gives a tour of Met Links, a new nine-hole public course built in the footprint of the erstwhile Metacomet Golf Club. Also, Brendan Porath reviews plans for a… somewhat obtrusive grandstand at the 2025 Ryder Cup.
