Interview
How is social media changing news?
It's definitely getting more people involved with local news, which is a good thing, though the way misinformation can spread is a problem.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It's being the person with the job of figuring out what happened and how it will affect people.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Microsoft Word, Quark and Photoshop, as well as Google Drive and Outlook. I also use the app Otter for recording and transcribing interviews
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter
Why did you become a journalist?
I started covering high school football games when I was 16 and I fell in love with the thrill of writing against a deadline.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Start pitching freelance stories or writing articles about stuff no one else is covering.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesday is production day, so Thursdays and Fridays are when I'm looking for ideas and when I have time to talk.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The New York Times, the New Yorker, the Athletic, the Atlantic
