Elton John’s farewell tour leads this week’s top Tampa Bay concerts
THE SUN GOES DOWN: Elton John This can’t be the end of the Yellow Brick Road, can it? Not with Elton John still playing nearly three hours of hits to sold-out arenas across America? Doesn't John — still a relatively sprightly 71 in human years, and ageless as ever in spirit — still have so many songs left to play? True, he may keep writing music and playing one-offs, and some sort of Vegas or London residency seems inevitable.
In Clearwater, a historic hologram brings Roy Orbison back to life
CLEARWATER — The singer didn’t have a bus, like his crew and opening act. They hauled him off a truck in cases, in two Lenovo Legion laptops, onyx with glowing red keys. One backup, knock on wood, they’ve never had to use. They plugged in and pressed play, and a click track synced in the ears of those who needed to hear it. In came the symphony, 31 strong, as a shadow of light rose up from the floor. And Roy Orbison, dead 30 years this December, came to life. Or something like it.

Review: John Legend kicks off crisp Christmas tour with style at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater
What does an EGOT get you these days? If you're John Legend, wining an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony gets you your very own Christmas tour. It gets you a five-piece band, three horns and three backup singers. And it gets you an array of snazzy suits crisper than freshly fallen snow, cranberry and golden and robin's egg blue. As singers go, Legend's less a dynamo than the classiest of classicists, and that pro's pro's style is all over his first holiday album, A Legendary Christmas.
