What was your first job as a journalist?
The first place I ever got paid for my writing was at the Poughkeepsie Journal where I worked as an intern during college.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Oh yes! That's where it all began. With White Out in a bottle and those little paper things that "whited out" a typo.

What does it mean to be a journalist?
SUCH A GR8 Q! We r story tellers. We <3 a gr8 story. Every1 story leads 2 many new stories. Tell us something so we can learn & write @ it!
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
Too many good ones to say. I have a comedian friend who always comes up with new #'s. So, whatever she's written will be on my top 10 list.

Email.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Whatever came with my Apple computer.
What's your favorite social network?
That's an impossible question to answer. Each of the "big" social media venues has a different tone/theme. I use FB, I, Li, T & G+ the most.
Who do you wish followed you?
I am assuming this question refers to social media: Ariana Huffington, Sheryl Sandberg.
Why did you become a journalist?
I'm a story teller. Simple as that. I love writing. Ask me about being an 8-year old on the ski lift and that will inform my answer.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Of course! Wrote for the "Interschool Newspaper" a conglomerate of 8-NYC schools. As a senior, I was editor. I focused on medical/science.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
That's a tough one. I love writing. Once I finish writing and getting my book published, that will likely be my proudest writing moment.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write. Pitch. But first, study the magazines for their themes. And remember, a rejection doesn't mean your idea is bad.

What's the best pitch you ever got?
An impossible question to answer (again!). If there's a good story in the pitch, then it's a good pitch. But NEVER send me an empty pitch.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Poorly written, only about selling product, has no meat. Get creative people! If you can't, HIRE someone (me) 2 help u craft a clever angle.
What's your favorite drink?
Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. And water. Oh, and a well-made Old Fashioned. Or, a Manhattan. And a nice glass of red wine to go with a good steak.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Swimming, skiing (or wanting to ski), taking my two, huge city dogs to the dog park, biking to great DC events.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Washington Post, New York Times, any well-written story.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
I'm not sure because I don't have any misconceptions about it!
