Carrie Cochran
VerifiedCarrie Cochran’s Biography
I am a documentary photographer and video producer for the Cincinnati Enquirer. Depending on the day, I may be covering breaking news, helping out with five-camera shows, or occasionally shooting sports. But my heart really goes into telling other people's stories – mostly regular people who don't get much media attention. I feel most fulfilled when shooting and editing short web documentaries that complement issue reporting, or offer a perspective that is rarely seen.
I almost always produce and edit my own video pieces. Sometimes I shoot video, photos, and write the story as well.
Since 2005, I've worked at my hometown newspaper. Somehow, working at Ohio newspapers has still allowed me to cover Hurricane Katrina, immigration in Mexico, flooding in Iowa, and the earthquake in Haiti.
Whether on assignment, or on vacation, I love an adventure, and don't mind roughing it. I've backpacked parts of the Appalachain Trail, biked across the state of Iowa and trekked through the Costa Rican rainforest.
Since 2013, Carrie has received three EMMYs for her video work from the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). She has been published in the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Chicago Tribune. Carrie has been honored for her still photography as SPJ Ohio Photographer of the Year and Kentucky News Photographer's Association Photographer of the Year (runner-up). Along with her visuals, she has also been honored for her reporting. In September, 2014, Cochran was asked to join the Board of Governors of the National Acadmy of Television Arts & Sciences Ohio Valley Chapter, which covers Ohio from Columbus to Cincinnati, parts of Indiana, all of West Virginia, and all of Kentucky.
