Carrie N. Baker’s Biography

Sylvia Dlugasch Bauman Chair of American Studies and a Professor in the Program for the Study of Women and Gender at Smith College.BA (’87) in philosophy from Yale University, JD (’94) from Emory University School of Law, and an MA (’94) and Ph.D. (’01) from Emory University’s Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Author of three books: The Women's Movement Against Sexual Harassment (Cambridge University Press, 2007), Fighting the US Youth Sex Trade: Gender, Race and Politics (Cambridge University Press, 2018) and Sexual Harassment Law: History, Cases, and Practice (Carolina Academic Press) with Jennifer Drobac and Rigel Oliveri. Co-editor with Aviva Dove-Viehban of Public Feminisms: From Academy to Community (Lever Press, 2023). Forthcoming book, Abortion Pills: US History and Politics (Amherst College Press, 2024). Contributing editor and regular writer at Ms. magazine. Columnist at the Daily Hampshire Gazette (Northampton, MA). Host of Feminist Futures on WHMP radio in Northampton, MA.
